Most of the dead-weight will be gone next next summer, people can argue players like Myers but he contributes and isn't an anchor such as LE, Sutter, Roussel, Beagle, Spooner, Baertschi all on the sidelines plus the unfortunate Luongo penalty. - Nucker101
disagree. myers is mediocre right now but he's not going to get better. the anchor of a contract will only get heavier. |

definitely. i think we're almost on the same page. the only difference is timeline.
i just think they're way too tight to the cap right with so many moving parts. what i mean is that the most important issues should be devising how the cap will look in 3ish years. they need to map out how they'll resign their core to figure out how much money that leaves for UFAs/trades.
by bringing in new cap now, they'll give themselves little margin for error going forward. i'd prefer them to be under the cap and have some breathing room for at least a season. and then that should leave them with enough cap to bring in impactful win-now players. - RealityChecker
Capfriendly bro
I’ve tried a few years of projections & it’s very doable. Bridge deals are a key. Allow bets to expire & even a buyout or 3 as in JV for one example. |

Wonder if we’ll see Silovs, or Silvos or whatever his name is in the third? |

He’s on a mediocre d corp at best. Fix the D around him & I’m fine with him. |

His 3.88 is safe for another year. - 1970vintage
with the talk of players wanting out, it's nice to see someone playing like he wants to stay in vancouver. i'm glad holtby doesn't want to get picked in the expansion draft. |

Hasn't he been working with Clark quite a bit this season? Good chance to see what he's got. |

That was a miss lol
I had Sergachev or trade down & take McAvoy. No not hindsight but filled need & wasn’t outta line imo. Ppl here never like my trade down ideas. 😂 |

I think he was in Manitoba most of the season. He’ll be headed to Latvia for the Worlds soon.
I’m not even sure if he’s on the bench or if it’s Demmer today. He was the backup yesterday. |

His size and reach will allow him to be useful even when he slows down, we'll see. |

i'm not saying it isn't possible. i'm just saying that by spending to the cap every year, the team always seems to need the next contract to expire or a buyout for the "fixes" the team needs.
rather than having to thread the needle every year, especially for a bottom 10 team, why not give yourself some breathing room with the cap? they are not close to competing. |

If Myers is the big cap anchor on this team in the future, that's fine. A lot of the top teams have some overpaid vets, it's something that you can still work with. The issue is when you have multiple like right now. Hopefully Benning has learned and FA will get off his back about signing those types go deals. |

even in buffalo and wpg, it's his turning/mobility that caused me concern. it's not getting better. we'll see. |

he definitely struggles against the faster players in the league, not argument there. Ideally he's paired with a good skater giving you a nice balance of size and skating on a pairing. |

i agree having multiple bad contracts hurts the team.
but that's not a worry with the next batch of signings that FA and JB make.
but you gotta admit that FA/JB do work well together drafting wise. other than a couple of whiffs FA's instincts and JB's scouting mesh well together.
that's why i wish for a new GM but a perfect scenario would be keeping FA/JB in charge of drafting. |

Idk what or how but maxing cap has LTIR implications.
That said Sutter out opens cap. Add to that other cap saved on other moves or LTIR or buyouts. |

It's the same with Hughes this season, any young player that has one season where they struggle a bit and suddenly that player should be traded. |
