Yup but he kept it to himself. Naslund was a hardcore bible-thumper, as well.

He's definitely not a big bible guy, and not at all pushy.

Guys love him here. Pretty quiet publicly but does a lot of behind the scenes stuff at local childrens hospitals and likes to do things on the ice to play with the media.

Like when Jack Edwards went on a rant about him wearing a #19 Whalers jersey, which was a number retired by the Whalers, he used tape to change his number in practice to 69.

Lots of guys in the league like that. Very few flaunt it though.

Something interesting I saw in the story on espn:I seem to remember one of the reasons for Wilson not receiving a suspension for the Buchnevich thing was that "because he hasn't been suspended in over 18 months, he's not considered a repeat offender". Seems like a double standard to me.
- NorthNuck

Hm, strange. Must be a fan narrative then?

Still don't think that Wilson thing was as bad as it was made out to be.

Same here. If he hit his shoulder/chest, that would have been a great hit. Just went straight for the chin. Stupid play.

- NewYorkNuck

yeah that's sort of my take on it as well. I like the fact that he threw a good, well-timed, hard, open-ice hit, he just needs to pick his spot better. If that connects directly to his chest/shoulder, that would be a perfect hit.

I mean it's in the past now, nothing to be done about it. But nobody can deny the inconsistency has been on full display this season. You look at the Edler and Macewan suspensions and have to wonder how Wilson didn't get something. Now I bet they drop the hammer disproportionately hard on Kadri because why not.

this season's player discipline is very consistent with how they've been in the past.

Oh ya, I think they're all over the (frank)ing map. It's stupid, and leaves fans and players confused and angry over what's called what and when something is deemed suspension worthy.

I could have seen Wilson get a game to quell the fights that were going to/did happen. The same plays that happen in different games get different calls and suspensions. There's no baseline. They need to hire an outside source/department that can objectively enforce the rules.

100%. I've been saying this for a while, I don't see how they can possibly think that a department run by a former enforcer is going to have any kind of objectivity about this stuff. Add to that the fact that there are no clearly defined rules/guidelines and it just makes the whole thing a mess.

this is the biggest boys club industry there is. they open up the doors to no-one.

even their collective bargaining arbitration process is kind of a joke.

if they were to hire an "outside source," you know it's going to be headed up or the company run by former players who are still tangentially connected to the game.

the decisions are all over the map because 1) it actually is a hard job and two plays are never the same; and 2) league politics. certain individuals and teams have more sway than others whether it's through friendship or financial/business power. i'm not saying it's an overt use of power but more of the subtle, "we don't want to pi$$ ___ off."

just like good old cam robinson (was it him?) who said, don't fight the cap circumvention, hire a gm who will do it for your team. we can only hope that FA would flex the financial power a canadian team should have. but sadly, in the old boys network, even that won't get you far unless you're buddies with the right people.

Yes. All the efforts should be in getting a legit d. Trade whoever to stack the d.

Sign Hamilton
Trade for Ekblad cause you may be able to pry him away and all of a sudden the de goes from terrible to pretty solid
Bring Hammy back

Hamilton Hamonic Hughes Ekblad Sxhmidt Myers Rathnone.

That is a very solid and dynamic de

We need a forward that can do that sort of hitting. ASAP. When a D man gets ejected it hurts a bit more ice time wise.

For some reason Green doesn't like encouraging a physical style. When you watch playoff hockey, it's a prerequisite.

*Not that I'm advertising for this* as I don't think it'd be worth it, but it'd probably look something like:

Boeser + this years 1st for Ekblad (have to really entice FLA)
Myers + next year 2nd + prospect to Seattle for taking Myers (have to move cap)
Sign Hamilton

Hughes - Hamilton
Schmidt - Ekblad
Rathbone - Hamonic

really? why would you say that? i haven't watched him a ton lately but i sort of thought he'd be the right style to go with quinn though i'm not advocating signing him.

he seems like a steady guy who is responsible in all zones. that's what quinn needs imo.

like i said, i haven't watched him a lot lately so my perception could be totally off.

I remember the stats from the bubble last year favoured Van when they hit less. There was a certain marker, 30 or 40 hits I believe that every single time they crossed it they lost the game.

He has always been an offensive guy, likes to shoot the puck a lot. Not the most responsible defensively.

Like I said, I don't support it, just stating how I think it would have to work. As for the Boeser/Ekblad... that's probably how it would work: two teams trading guys that are right next to untouchable.
- NewYorkNuck

Ya Ekblad would be nice but not something that's ever gonna happen here. Boeser has been quietly improving every year and his skating and defense looked excellent this year. Would not be shocked if he is right next to Petey in scoring next season.

i've always thought the knock on his defensive play was overblown. in calgary, he seemed like a guy this team could surely use.

i always thought he was an offensive guy until calgary where i got to watch him more. he seemed more of a complete dman to me.

How 'bout those Jets? Eh, Lordy.

lol no panic yet. If the oil lose both at home it's only a 20% chance of winning the series. Big trouble then lol

Wasn't Hamhuis a pretty religious guy?
- NorthNuck

Ya but I don't think he pushed it in the room to my knowledge. I have heard Hamilton does and doesn't engage in alot of the room activity. Heard it both coming out of Boston and especially CGY.
