I wouldn’t sign any UFA’s for longer than 1 year and I wouldn’t give out any NTC/NMC to anyone.
I’d resign Grayovac and Bailey and run with the guys they have:
Motte, Beagle, Roussel, Highmore, Grayovac, Bailey, Lockwood, Michalis, Lind, Gadjovic, Jasek, whoever. - 1970vintage
I’m writing off Beagle as retiring on LTIR. Moving on from Roussel to open up a wing spot. Idk if traded or bought out but gone.
I really like Graovac as a 4C if can stay healthy. Has a knack for scoring & luv his size. |

Virtanen likely gone as well. Benning has learned that overpaying bottom 6’ers was a mistake and we now have cheap bottom 6 replacement options like Graovac, Highmore, Lind, Lockwood, ZMac to go along with Motte. Plus ELC Podkolzin next year. The cap space freed up in the summer of 2022 will be exciting. Next year is a stopgap/development year
I would pay up for a legit 3C though, go cheap with the rest. Pearson will eventually get bumped down to 3LW to form a strong 3 line squad due to Pod/Hog |

Roussell may be done in by that knee. Looked like the same one he had surgery on in his first season got injured again. Possible LTIRetire him. |

I’m sure a victory today will have the guys all amped for off season training knowing that they are that close to challenging for the cup - 1970vintage
This is such an exciting time for the franchise moving forward. |

I don’t think we have ever had more moral victories per 60. Probably the most important fancy stat |

What the (frank) are you talking about? We win today and we win the series and then on to the next round. Secretly, I’m hoping that we get the Oilers in the next round because IMO we match up better than we do Jets. |

Passing on the 3rd line as it’ tough & so much to do & it’s the most important task for JB to get done so onto the 4th it is.
Motte Graovac Lind/Gads/Lockwood
Has real potential imo |

With the farm team in Abbotsford they should spend a lot of time bringing up/sending down guys - maximizing cap space so they can either upgrade or take on a bad contract - depending on how they do. - 1970vintage
I wonder about who pays which contract for the farm team. Robert Esche owned Utica. Van has never had many prospects in Utica.
Maybe its my own theory but Canucks seem to leave their prospects in college or Europe for as long as possible.
Other teams I feel sign more players and bring them over sooner than Van does.
If FA is cheap as mentioned, him not wanting to take as many chances if they don't end up working out as players and "wasting money".
I don't know if FA is going to own Abbottsford or if someone else. |

You can’t just “write them off”, they both have another year on their contracts. For all we know Ferland might try and make a comeback. |

Sarcasm aside, it’s one draft spot in a crapshoot draft plus Benning should thrive in a draft like this where the teams run by nerds don’t have enough data and the eye test reigns supreme more than ever. A few draft spots in a draft like this is no biggie. |

I’m looking ahead to the summer of 2022
Miller - Pettersson - Boeser
Podkolzin - Horvat - Hoglander
Pearson - Good 3C - Lind or UFA
Lockwood/Gadjovich - Graovac - Motte
Hughes - UFA/trade (good defensive stay at home dman)
Schmidt - Myers
Rathbone - Hamonic/UFA/maybe Woo? |

This year should have been development year. I wouldn't pay for a 3lc this year. Cheap guy, save the space to see where the team goes next season. Things go right, get one at tdl if needed, if they don't go right. Not locked in. |

For any of the guys on ELC or two way deals, they can send them down on off days all season and save both cap and real $. |

Who knows. But a decent chunk of money freed up plus a core entering it’s best years as a whole. |

3C doesn’t have to be urgent, stay patient and wait for the right opportunity cost like Miller/Schmidt. We need one in place by 22/23, plenty of time.
22/23 is when this team should be ready to be a threat for a deep playoff run |

Stupid fat fingers - just flagged this...
Is this your dream 2022/2023 roster?
This season ‘22/23 will actually be their window to win. Boeser will be an RFA that summer and Horvat and Miller are UFA’s the summer after. They probably won’t be able to keep both. Jim needs to do everything in his power to shed bad contracts for that summer so they can afford to go all in. |

That’s my ideal line up other than a UFA winger. This organization really needs a prospect to make noise on the 3rd line. |

Cap should rise by then, if they have a strong season I can see players wanting to stay here at a slight discount. Bo especially. Miller can be replaced by Podkolzin hopefully and Podkolzin’s line 2 spot will need to be filled via UFA/trade or another good prospect like Hog |

We have candidates, chances are one of them pans out. Question is, targets via trade or UFA for Hughes RHD partner and 3C spot. Have about 12-14 months to figure those 2 spots out.
Maybe use Dipietro + pick/prospect to fill one of those holes and sign a UFA for the other.
Expansion draft presents opportunities as well, some teams may have a 3C or RHD available. |

I & Carol both wanted that this past season. I was prepared for any results if it were to have happened. I truly wanted to see it being the taxi squad made it possible. |

The 2 biggest needs indeed.
I prefer to shed cap & entice the Kracken.
MDP/JV/LE possibly. Hoping that flies.
A D for Hughes tops my list then can move onto a 3C in various ways. I don’t think we’ve the assets yet to trade so I lean towards a UFA 3C. We need picks to keep stockpiling for the future. |
