For me it's this. It's well past definition of insanity. No GM or Coach has ever gotten this much rope and for good reason.

This and stuff.

if FA had made himself GM, not signed anyone (i'm talking UFA) over 5m/yr for over 3 years and drafted based on the scouting department's list over the last 7 years; would the team be better, worse or similar to what it is now?

i'm gonna say, either similar or slightly worse.... but with a hell of a lot more cap space.

I think most people would say they generally played poorly, and then played good at times. However, them playing good is pretty much the "good" we've seen the last couple years: timely goals and horrible D masked by Vezina goaltending. While goalies are part of a team's success, having that as your team makeup/system/hope is very fragile and not sustainable. Any level of regression or injury to that one player and your team caves.

Yes, the schedule hurt them out of the gates. It was poop. But it's not the reason they suck so much. A better coached, managed, and playered team could have done better. Every team had a compressed schedule this year in some way.

I'm willing to write this year as a one-off and see what happens next season with a healthy squad over a full 82 games. FA is giving Benning and Green their rope for a few more seasons so it is what it is. I'm ok with it as the core looks good moving forward and Pods next year. Plus a good pick we'll se where it goes. Until ownership stops meddling changing Benning or Green at this stage doesn't accomplish much IMO.

and there it is!

JB gets all the credit for the core and the criticism goes to ownership. awesome!

lucky that the team is at the stage that it needs more good drafting rather than surrounding the core with the right "win now" players. we're moving into JB's real strengths.

lol JB has flaws as does Green. Obviously FA is willing to let them see this through. There's lots of blame to go around I'm sure. Some support for JB will help and Green is maturing. See whee it g oes.

at the end of the day, the critics of this regime will be right or the canucks will turn out to be winners.

see where it goes for sure, but when the horizon looks like mediocrity, the ship will be adrift at sea. when it's adrift, it's easy to say that land is just beyond the horizon.

in fact, that's how we've gotten here.
