No hate.
He’s a good player, which is why I want to read him and his reasonable contract for a top4 D ideally.

He reminds me of Kesler.
Selfish and moody.
Not the kind of guy you win with imo.

- dbot

What D do you target.

On the moody I don’t want a vanilla roster. Different personalties is important in my way of thinking.

he is everything that people thought Gudbranson should have been.
- Codes1087

I felt the same way about Edmundson but the Habs got him.

he has one year left, he was a stopgap/mentor for Demko(a SC winning goalie to have around Demko is not a bad idea). Comparing him to Loui is a joke.
- Nucker101

plus don't forget that holtby was coming off a very strong year in washington. that's not the kind of guy you play hardball with in negotiations.

Someone posted this in HF boards and it looks plausible:

To VAN:
Oliver Ekman-Larsson

To ARI:
Nate Schmidt
Antoine Roussel
Loui Eriksson (buy-out)
VAN's '21 2nd (40th overall)

Saves us 6m in cap this year, upgrades Schmidt. Saves Arizona cash now and in the future while getting decent value in players back.
OEL buyout is at 2.5m per season now and drops every year until he actually needs to be bought out. Could probably get 3-4 solid years out of him before that and his buyout becomes quite cheap with a higher cap than today.

- Retinalz

8.25 cap hit for 6 more seasons. No thanks.

Is this his two year plan from last year, or a new two year plan?

Honestly, it's more disheartening than anything. FA keeps believing him, and he keeps making the same mistakes/changes/problems over and over.

We don’t know JB’s next moves. History isn’t always repeated.

i love the fact that as canuck fans now, this is the first thought whenever a player is acquired.

1. OEL (captain/leader, minute muncher, plays all situations, not small, can skate)
2. Graves (big, physical, stay at home, plays his role well, can eat up shutdown mins)

Any other suggestions?

I’d expect nothing less from a GM.
- Nighthawk

An East GM was asked what his plans were for the day before free agency.

"Buyout the contracts that I gave last year, so I can give out more bad ones tomorrow"

He came off a poor year, but I think he struggles with less of a workload, some goalies just play better in rhythm, even Luongo said so when he was here

Someone young.
Fast.
Top4.

Depends on other moves, but if we did nothing else I’d consider Ristolainen +

Similar age.
Singed for another year.

He’s no Tanev, but I could see him pairing nicely with OJ.

Then sign Landry to replace JTM.

ya and his career is on the downswing. 3 goals and 21 assists may as well bring Tanev back lol

Thoughts on Ryan Graves?

Colorado has to protect Makar, Girard and E.Johnson

- Nucker101

I like him but LHD least of my concern.

you might be right. it's a good thing he'll get the majority or at least half the starts next year.

benning has been great in his forward thinking.

Jordan Greenway from Minny to shore up the bottom 6 and maybe even move up the lineup to play with EP when teams try to rough him up?

I believe he won't be protected by them

Fair enough, I thought maybe they could have him paired with Myers and free up Hughes for softer mins

I say move on. Nothing against either of them just the need for change.

I'd be down for OEL trade for Schmidt as suggested above and then signing Landy. Sedin influence and 2 captains added to the Locke room would be massive.

- Nucker101

if they don't get OEL, they should try to get subban if he's still available.

How would Subban fit under the current country-club status? Heard he's quite the locker room cancer. 3 teams in 5 years.

But his buyout is reasonable, if you get 4 years of solid hockey out of him, the last 2 years of buyout would be okay, especially since the cap will likely rise by then/

Imo we need defensive RHD.
Landy will be pricier so I don’t see it.
3C is a bigger need.
