He thought he needed gudbranson for McCann and two 2nds at one point. You put a ton of faith in a man that has proven very little as far as obtaining what this team really needs.

Gudbranson was a bizarre case. He peaked early in Florida, somehow they sold high on a dman entering his mid 20’s |

Ducks fans liked him, maybe he just plays better on physical teams where he doesn’t have to be the team’s designated body guard |

I mentioned that we will see the direction of the Canucks over the next 6 weeks or so. This would include the draft, buyout period and free-agency.
Hopefully it doesn't involve more ultra soft types, the team is already loaded with them. - Reubenkincade
I could care less whether they're "tough to play against" or "soft", soft teams have won the Cup before in the past. A lot of our problems is our transition game and puck possession sucks ass which is why we end up stuck in our own zone for more than half the game scrambling to try and keep offensive players from getting at our goalies. Mostly because our team beyond our first and 2/3rd of our 2nd line and Hughes are mostly slow as molasses on skates and have cement hands when it comes to the puck. Not to mention most of our D are literally afraid of having the puck on their stick for more than a second and get rid of it, forcing our forwards to chase the puck, hoping to catch up and get it or else push it into the corner in the offensive zone and change. |

Ok, but now do roussel, Beagle, sutter, clendening, baertschi.
If we look at his pro level transactions, he's missed far more than he's hit with knowing what to obtain to make this team good. |

Sutter was solid before the injuries, same with Roussel. Beagle by all accounts is great in the locker room which is why the Flames wanted him to fix their broken locker room plus he’s great on the PK and faceoffs.
Clendening and Sven were age gap deals, part of ownership’s mandate to speed up the rebuild. Sven was solid until his concussion issues
Also, early on a GM still needs to learn which pro scouts to trust more than others. |

The "Super Scout" should have traded Subban in lieu of Forsling.
Sutter has been injured for his entire contact. |

Not sure what soft teams have won the cup, but I can name a few teams that went and got some grit in order to hopefully get to the next level, including the Cup Champs, Lightning, the Leafs, and Islanders. |

really, those guys were solid? how do you define good or decent play? if you measure by personal or team success, i find it hard how you can say they were "solid."
also, i don't understand the whole "age gap," rationale. i don't understand what the ages of the players have to do with it, if they don't bring success. the age gap rationale is only successful if the players brought in within that age range grow with the team. how did that turn out?
finally, i'd like to know the source that it was the "ownership's mandate" that forced these moves. and does that source also state whether the ownership has stopped directing management or not? or is it only ownership's meddling when the transaction goes badly.
i mean FA's meddling in drafting hasn't been all that bad. he did pick JV but he also a hand in picking petey and hoglander so on balance his meddling isn't all that bad. i suppose. |

my point is though, whether we use injuries, gap deals, etc, is that none of these have worked.
Sutter didnt fix anything. Beagle didn't fix anything. Roussel didn't fix anything. Gudbranson arguably made things 50x worse, both when he was acquired and for our future.
I just don't get how you and Lordy can be so sure that Benning "knows" what this team needs now, when he has had 7+ years of trying to acquire and draft the things that we need, and we are 24th overall out of 31 teams in the league.

it's almost as if JB sets an opinion on a player at around his draft age and never lets go of it. |

What's really sad is that Benning could of had Forsling back twice.

Sutter was a decent 3rd line player. Same with Roussel. Sven was growing with the team until his concussion. Motte is currently growing with the team.
