Sure, I’m fine with those guys having roles within the organization if that’s what both want. I just mean that there doesn’t seem to be anyone driving the bus. Jim isn’t that guy. He needs a boss that isn’t Frankie, and isn’t a former player with no formal education or experience in managing a billion dollar business. - 1970vintage
Just curious, what kind of formal education do you believe this person needs?

This was from last week in the Athletic. I knew the Canucks had a stripped down management staff, but only have 4 real voices for the entire franchise seems a bit low, especially when it's been the same 4 voices for how many years now:
You can rest assured that any serious hockey operations professional conducting a review of this club would promptly conclude that there have been insufficient resources provided to hockey operations in general. Running a bit lean can be a good thing, but having only four major day-to-day voices in a hockey operations department with nobody filling the role of president, director of amateur scouting or director of player personnel is far from best practice.

An MBA would be a good start for someone in that kind of position. Life teaches many lessons, but those with both education and experience tend to perform better.
Lots of players go on to add degrees after their playing days are over.
I believe U of Calgary actually offers a specialization in sports management.

I'm pretty sure Gilis taught a sports management course at UVic after he was fired too

I brought this up a few years ago,and was shot down by some when I mentioned Bieksa. He has a Bachelors of Finance, is currently a part of the KO sports Management team and of course, the best analyst in hockey, but is a former player.
I think Bieksa would be great as the man in charge.
I would also like to see someone like Jennifer Botterill involved in player development, or skills development.

Juice wouldn't be a terrible guy down the road, but would need to work his way up if he wants to leave broadcasting. He's smart, connected, well liked, and if he has the business acumen, I can see him succeeding.
Ryan Johnson is clearly the guy they're grooming. Would like to see him up here in the next year or two as AGM.
Since we're just hashing out former players, what's Naslund's reputation over in Sweden? Says he retired from Modo in 2014. Building up that professional resume outside the rink?

Jennifer Botterill’s hockey pedigree is outstanding. Her playing career, her Harvard education (she should have done business instead of sports psychology though), her parents, her brother, and her husband all in the pro sports/hockey business.

Good call specifically naming her. - bloatedmosquito

She is a very good hockey mind. Always enjoyed her interviews when she was a player and enjoy her insight during the broadcasts.
👍

Yes, smart people in key roles. Not sure if you remember Jim Kyte, first legally deaf NHLer? Smart guy, has his MBA from Royal Roads here on the Island, is now a higher up at Algonquin College in Ottawa.

I haven't kept up with anything Naslund has been doing.

Jim Kyte🥰
I enjoyed listening to him explain how he had to do different things on the ice, to be able to play the game, such as watch the glass, to see where players were.
He was always a good interview.

All I can find is he’s into real estate development now.
Listen man, saying “I’m not comparing” and then going right ahead and talking about the kind of game that player plays, and how your guy plays like that is exactly comparing.
I brought it up for a laugh, as Ruebs had mentioned the Bruins, Bergeron scoring twice in the win.
I get it, you think Jim is smart. You are welcome to your opinion. I think he isn’t smart. 🤷♂️ - 1970vintage
No, you listen man. I have been told by many in here that Jim's words are to be taken exactly how they are said. When he says "I'm not comparing", there is no other way to take it other than those words exactly.

Dude, you can say I’m not comparing and still compare. That’s literally what he did. I’m not calling you an idiot but you’re an idiot. See what I did there?

Jim really has to get better at speaking, some of this fan base needs someone to really spell it out for them.

If he’s not comparing players why even mention the other players? Just say “player X is real good and stuff” and be done with it.
No one should listen to a word the clown says anyway. Everything coming out of his mouth is either crap or BS. I don’t think there has ever been a more dishonest GM in Canuck history than JB. The guy is a walking-talking contradiction.
