Rangers had 2nd interview with Rick Tocchet yesterday.

That seems to make him the favorite IMO

Should wait to see if Carolina gets swept first

Either way, I don't hate it. Would be pleased with either Gallant or Tocchet.
- JRR1285

I'd honestly prefer gallant but not gonna lose sleep over tocchet

I'm leaning that way too. Gallant has significantly more success.

I do have to say, Tocchet's numbers as a head coach are quite lacking but he did spend a lot of time in Arizona which is a dumpster fire.

I wonder if it gives any chance to Stepan being signed as a depth center

I think Stepan and Tocchet had pretty good relationship

Rangers twitter is a subset of the fans that I hope to never interact with.

I'm not even gonna look because I don't need reasons to be on there.

He had 6 points in 20 games this year. Hard pass.

Edit: He's also historically bad at Faceoffs. best year is this year at 50%

oh yeah, he had a miserable season

he had no desire to go to Ottawa, his wife just had a baby right before he was traded, he had to quarantine, it was a mess of a year as much as any other player in the league

then shoulder surgery finished his season

it would be this year's Jack Johnson signing, like 1 year 1.15 mil to see if he has anything left pretty much

At the end of the day I'm not gonna flip out over it. He definitely has to be more serviceable than Jack Johnson. I tried to be positive about that one but he was trash the moment he suited up.

The goal was limited minutes as a showcase, it didn't work out. Who knew what the kids on D were gonna do and you needed someone to fill the void by Staal. Would have been nice if he took a locker room leadership role but never saw any reports of that.

Do you think the season goes differently if Chara is in over Johnson? Maybe a more stabilizing presence?

I honestly don't want Brendan Smith back. He was a good teammate and played hard but was only really solid when he was hidden or sheltered. Any time he had to step up cause of an injury or play bigger minutes he was exposed. I think they need to move on and look for someone else.

I recall reading about the Rangers being in it right to the end?

Found one of the quotes:

But The Post has recently learned the Rangers’ effort went way beyond token interest. Indeed, a well-placed source reports that the club was a finalist in the derby, in the hunt until the last minute, when Chara decided he simply could not pass up the opportunity to go for another Cup in Washington.

I'm OK with either scenario. It would be nice to have him back in a reduced role. He's very versatile and does not look out of place when asked to play forward.

Agreed if he accepts $1 to 1.5 for one year.
