Trade boards seem to be universally happy with Chytil and a 1st for Hertl. The issue we have here is what do we do with Buch if we make a move like that? We have an abundence of kids/talent/prospects and no real way to consolidate it all.

I guess cap is always a concern, but why would we have to do anything yet? Losing Smith and Shatty's dead cap going down cancels Hertl out. You could always give Buch like a 2-3 year contract with the intention of letting him walk afterwards.

Sometimes there's nothing wrong with short term deals going for it, and then letting the player walk at the end.

Because in 2022 we would have to resign Zib, Hertl, Fox, Kakko and Krav. Signing Buch would put us in a massive bind.

I'd say we let Strome walk after next year. I've been on the drum on we having to go for it now because of potential future cap issues later, but I'd also point out after next season Hank's 1.5 dead cap falls off, and the season after that both Girardi and Shatty's dead cap falls off.

We don't know what happens with Tony D, but if we just held on to him that's another few million that's off the cap next year. As uncomfortable as it sounds, I'd get rid of Georgie too for another 2 million. I don't want my backup making that much.

it's gonna be very interesting to see the contract Shesterkin gets, because it's all fine and good to say Shatty's and Smith's cap hits are coming off but, then Lindgren's new contract and Shesty's are being added on

The other concern I have with a Buch contract extension is the potential for a NTC/NMC.

I don’t think Shesty has earned a big contract yet. If he wants a long term deal right off the bat he can’t expect big money yet. I’d be ok locking him up 3-4 years at 4 per but anything more $ wise I can’t see. If he wanted a 2 year deal but 5 per id be ok with that

I think someone pretty comparable is Demko on Vancouver

he just got 5 years 25 million, I think that's fair for Shesty

absolutely no way they can give one of those to Buch

they can't be tied down to both Kreider and Buch when Lafreniere, Kakko and Kravtsov could very well be better than both of them relatively quickly

I have a feeling that Drury won't hand them out like candy.

Man I wish we could turn all these assets into Lindholm for 2C and Dvorak for 3C. Would take a massive weight off our financial shoulders for the next 2 years.

I like Dvorak I know he doesn't exactly meet the "toughness" mandate, but his contract is good and he's solid on faceoffs

I’d take it. Speaking of Vancouver, you thinks they’d have any interest in trading Horvat? They have Miller and Peterson as their top 2 centers, not sure what they’d be looking for though.

Not in the least bit, Miller is the odd man out there, not Horvat. Hes their captain ffs.

Ive heard that Eriksson may be bailing them out by retiring

if that happens and they can figure a way to dump Holtby I think they'll probably not change much

such a crazy season for them, Covid hit them as hard as anyone

Don't overlook the fact that Horvat is their captain. Not just like trading any old player.
Plus, I'm not sure how often Miller has been in the middle and how much he's on the wing, but I know they have used him there.

I really want Landeskog, but I don't see anyway Colorado lets him hit the open market.

He would be my top choice

I had him in fantasy. He wins like 15 FO a game

I mean, it depends on if we win the lottery again, but if we don't, the 15th overall pick would be a solid foundation to build a trade package for Dvorak:

15th overall
Sabres 3rd rounder (which is first pick of 3rd round)
Matthew Robertson

for

Christian Dvorak

seems like that would be kind of deal Arizona would be interested in

additionally, Dvorak makes over 5 million in 2021-22 after making 3.4 mil last year

so they could be interested in getting rid of that cost

He’d be a great 3C, but are we still comfortable with Strome as our 2C? I am to be honest but not sure where we go once his contract is up
