Another detail people are omitting from the Maker talk, wouldn't he even need to sign an offer sheet if he was presented one? Maybe he is happy where he is at and is not looking to sign anywhere else yet.

... and you still don't have good enough forwards.
... and you are banking on the majority of the D prospects reaching their potential.
... and you still have to pencil Keith into the lineup as well as his cap hit.
... and Colliton is going to screw him up anyways.

The reason that the Hawks are in the position they currently are is because they did not have enough high end talent coming up, and/or developing through the ranks. I think it would be quite foolish to go that route without being in position to compete right now.

Well said! You’re pretty smart for a Chunk.

Good point. Colorado is a team with potential to win now. I’m just surprised you didn’t post that Bettman won’t allow the Hawks to sign a good player.

Well the Hawks don't have their third round pick so the compensation doesn't work.

And you would have to cut $5 mil. in salary or else you are over the cap which disqualifies you to make the offer.

- LAHawk

Well there goes that,

If the offer sheet is made after this year's amateur draft the draft pick compensation begins in 2022. The Hawks have their 3rd in 2022.

Would Makar look so "good" playing on the Hawks as opposed to playing on a extremely talented Colorado team? I wouldn't commit $10 mil. dollars to him and lose all those draft picks next year. If your going to throw money at a defenseman, I think Miro Heiskenen is more well rounded.

so assuming we end up with #11 and the top 8 skaters are gone and we do not want a goalie these would be the 2 guys I like the most. A 2 -way center with size that can win faceoffs in Mctavish and lysell who is one of the better skaters puck handlers in the drat.

here are some highlights on Mason mctavish.

I dont think his skating looks bad to me. maybe someone else can offer an opinion.

While in hindsight the Danault trade wasn’t well done at the time I thought Bowman had added pieces to give the Hawks another run.
- paulr

Thank you kind of tired of hearing about this trade. The trade is only bad in hindsight. Stan's job wasn't building for the future and although this one hurts, it wasn't bad at the time and Danault would have made no difference on this team the last 5 years.

Corey Pronman gets told by scouts that there are hitches in various prospects skate g and her repeats it.

The knock on almost every North American forward (save for Berniers) is that they don't have that explosion in the game.

Eklund and Lysell don't have any problem, but they aren't necessarily burners either.

Fabian Lysell highlights

The thing rot watch with Lysell is the entire leg hip to skate blades and you see how well he uses his bottom half.

I am very curious as to how the top of the first round shakes out and am wondering if "conservative" thinking will be just grabbing the defenders no matter how they shake out, as long as you get one who plays in some pairing.

Also wonder if the all this chinks in the armor talk on the forwards sees teams deciding that a few of the prospects that are thought of in general as mid rounders are better values than guys who may not be top skaters as pros...nit for me to decide, because I DONT SEE ISSUES WITH Stillman or Mctavish.
Brennan Othmann is a good forward that plays heavy. He
Aatu Räty can be thought of as a 3rd liner if he doesnt developed, but teams are goingvto take that chance.
Many many people are down on Zachary L`Heureux as an overly aggressive quick twitch but patient attacker, a long shot to be an impact NHLer? Again someone will think different.
I do not have any defenders in the draft slots #20-28, and it starts to be team preference.

My first round sleeper is 6 4 Roman Schmidt from the USA development team...am I the only one who thinks he fits there?

Hell Matthew Coronato undersized and scorers a bunch),
Olivier Nadeau (big and scores a bunch)
and a while lot of kids are still quality c hook es no matter how there draft is full of tractors saying there are not "really good kids" in it.

The idea is to draft who will develop and improve over the deficits, so I try and put the silliness of skating comments, and think you look to desire current toolbox and if they can GET a chance to be NHlers.

It is difficult to think this draft is some wash where no players rise to the top of the class and becomes an impact player, because there always is one.

here was a recent draft ranking the most interesting thing is He has Simon edvisson down at # 22 everything else is pretty similar.

- kmw4631

Sorry to say he has at least 7 guys who will not be picked in the first round.

I like my top 224 prospects better. https://www.lines.com/nhl/drafts

And sure there IS hype surrounding Simon Edvinsson, because there is no finished product, there is no semblance of a Hedman so far (as Hedman was showing it in his final year) so sure I guess I understand his thinking, but it is hard to believe bust or. not he goes early because she SHOWS the development signs and improvement.
This will not be a class rushed into the NHL including Power Clarke and the Hughes III...

Two biggest mistakes in Wirtz Blackhawk hockey will always be, (I can't imagine them doing worse in the future),

1a) Phil Esposito trade.
1b) Not a trade but letting Bobby Hull go.

In more modern times, the Belfour and Roenick trades weren't much better. The Sharp trade never made sense getting Daley back at $3m and letting Oduya sign with Dallas for the same $. I know they did Sharp a favor but Stan got nothing.

- rpeters01

If it was only Phil Esposito but it was Gerry tinder and KEN HODGE for the 5th best goalie on there Bruins roster after Eddie Johnston Gerry Cheevers Bernie Parent and Doug Favell

Belfour trade was orchestrated by Tallon in the shadows- it not only sucked this and the JR departure were more about $ contracts than hockey and were a low points in the organization existence.

Daley was terrible and I never understood that return for Sharp money subtraction or not.

How much are you willing to offer him? How many draft choices are you going to have to give up?

Makar plays at one speed. Me thinks eventually it will end in an injury.

I think you can draft one.

Watching Mark Stone this weekend, i learned something - he was a 6th rounder. So with his determination and work ethic, he has turned himself into quite the well rounded player. The player on the Hawks that has that potential to elevate their game in next few years, maybe not to the Stone level, but to a top 6, well rounded player.....is.......? fill in the blanks. Oh and Mark Stone is quite the average skater. Curious how many on the board pick the same player

and Corey pronoun would be talking about his lack of foot speed.

amazing a stubble foot can get behind the dee like he did the other night to score...

you are correct - there is a whole lot else that enters into being a successful forward.

Why? Don't sign a guy just to sign him. Find, draft and/or develop players into the team that you want. You don't sign a player (especially for the dollars that Hamilton will command) just because he is the best of what is left. That is how you get Matt Duchene for $8M per year. If you are at the point where you have a competitive team and you need that one extra player, then you consider it. Not now. There are far too many holes to fill.

Not to "attack" you necessarily, but how many times did you criticize Murphy, de Haan, Z, and countless forwards? Those critiques were warranted, and a good portion of them will likely be on this team next year. Adding/having one guy with a big contract is not going to get the team where it needs to be.

I would say Kubalik, Hagel, Kurashev in that order

Was this more about how hard it was to move a $6 million cap hit, or do you believe they definitely could have done better on moving Sharp?

I didn't get to see the game either (highlights are available on the Hawks site), but Germany (3-0-0) beat Canada (0-3-0). He didn't score, but still is tied for second in points for the tournament (2G, 3A).

Hagel (10:50), Beaudin (12:51) and Pirri (16:46) played for Canada who really don't look great.

Kubalik scored an OT winner for CZE. Zadorov, and Shalunov played in a loss for the Russians. Kurashev plays tomorrow.
