Stan should trade Kubalik while he still has some value. He could easily get a 3rd round pick and C-level prospect (assuming he retains salary). - DarthKane
Trade him for Sikura while he still can. |

How in the world did EDM get swept? Reminds me of 2017 when NSH swept the Hawks. All the talent and no one to do all the the required work. |

I didn't get to see the game either (highlights are available on the Hawks site), but Germany (3-0-0) beat Canada (0-3-0). He didn't score, but still is tied for second in points for the tournament (2G, 3A).
Hagel (10:50), Beaudin (12:51) and Pirri (16:46) played for Canada who really don't look great.
Kubalik scored an OT winner for CZE. Zadorov, and Shalunov played in a loss for the Russians. Kurashev plays tomorrow. - Chunk
Marco Sturm has Germany rolling again. CBH would be very wise to consider offering him the head coach position ASAP. |

Their head coach is Finnish Toni Soderholm and assistants are Ville Peltonen (FIN) and Matt McIlvane (USA). Sturm is not part of this German team.

I only saw parts of it - but the Canadians had a lot of PP time in the 2nd period - including almost 4 minutes of 5x3 - and couldn’t score - lots of shots, but all either blocked by the German packe-in wall around the net, or shot right into the goalie. - StLBravesFan

Maybe next season they will attempt to break in two first round seletions: Both dmen Bouchard and Broberg
Mighy see more Koekoeck if he doesn't turn up on the Kraken
Correction made on spelling of Broberg name |

I don’t know, but I love it. (frank) them and their 17 consecutive first overall picks. I hope they never win a playoff series again and still find themselves in perpetual cap hell. |

I don't understand either, I thought Tippett was a defensive wizard as a coach.

Whatever it is, I’ve been enjoying it these last few years. I also love that every year many of the “experts” keep proclaiming this is the year…

Not as satisfying as the Blues being swept, but still entertaining. |

That is correct. The best players in the world can’t win by themselves, they need help and also leader types like Messier and Toews for example. TBH, while I’m not a fan of Edmonton, the league needs guys like McDavid to go deep in the playoffs, it’s just good for the league to showcase that type of talent. |

If the NHL were the NBA (maybe the NFL, too), McDavid would be forcing his way out of Edmonton this Summer. Looked like he wanted to, given the look on his mug after Bear served up the pizza pie for the tying goal. |

Speaking of pizzas, how about the extra large deep dish served up by the Penguin goalie in OT to give the Isles a 3-2 series edge? Ooof. |

Pertinent info from my perspective: “I used him as a [first]-line player,” Aubin said. “He did really well in a lot of different areas, whether it was in the defensive zone [or] playing against top lines on the other side. ... His skating this year was even better than last year. He’s really an elite skater. And his decision-making was also better. We could see a lot of growth.”
“We wanted to give him more responsibility this year,” Aubin said. “It was challenging a little bit as far as faceoffs — [those struggles] came from him just not being quite strong enough yet. But other than that, his puck support was phenomenal. He really opens the ice up tremendously with his speed.
“So once he got the hang of holding the puck and having good puck support, he really changed the dynamic of our team. Down low, below the goal line in our ‘D’ zone, he was solid. He’s such a smooth skater that it was actually pretty easy for him to be in the right position.”
Upon arriving in Illinois this summer, Reichel still will need to adjust to the North American style of play, increase his physicality and keep gaining weight. Over the last year, he has bulked up his 6-foot frame from 163 pounds to 176, but Aubin estimated Reichel’s ideal weight will be about 187 pounds. |

I know you’re kidding, however with Kubalik’s improvement in his overall game, IMHO he is currently a better all around forward than Saad, and I’ve always liked Saad. |

And that’s exactly why you don’t give up a but ton of picks to sign a guy like Makar |

Oh, I agree 100%, but I do like Makar. In my opinion he’s the best young defenseman out there, but he does play with a lot of high end talent, which in turn facilitates his production. |

yes, when surrounded by Elite talent a good D can rack up the points - Example is Keith in 2010 had 69 pts.

Next Wednesday is the draft order day. Two or three very good dmen might go in top five. A dman wiz once projected for Chicago could be available. I doubt any more move up in draft trades, at least not involving Chicago
Although the next Maker not in this draft, Power would likely be considered a high impact NHL dman. How soon Iet wiz say. I could guess slight possibility we move up only a couple of slots if Kelly and Bowman really want someone more than whom they see at our own slot
Is there a particular top center, dman or even the top goaltender available at say #10 as any rate would be conditional. I just see it as unlikely to happen. There is a high price to move up. Regula or Beaudin. We get hung up on. One of them plus Suter. Not too much interest. Kubalik. That would get it done. I probably pass and just draft someone else we like our original slot.
Eventually we need to steal someone with our mid first round or move to a very early pick. The difference makers are for most part early first round picks. We will be merely an average team fighting to make playoffs if we do not add a couple top picks over next 2-3 years |
