Couts played over 400 games and never scored more than 15 goals in a season before his breakout year 2017-18. Everyone is different.

His master plan sucked. Simple as that. He tip toed around a rebuild/retool and this is the results. His drafts still are question marks. Not one home run in the bunch. Some solid players sure no question. Some duds as well.

My questions on this kid exactly....Bigger guys will pound him.
He will never be without fear of another dislocation as he goes into a corner. He will win only 20%-30% of corner battles.
Which, in my mind flashes to first rookie camp when he was pitted vs Coots and got schooled, would have liked at that point of his early career, if he had the pitbull instinct, to not be beat, at any and all cost or in the loss have people say great fight that kid has the tenacity of Clarke or anyone with HEART!

What are you talking about. Morgan Frost is 5'11 at around 170. Theres tons of guys in the NHL that are established scorers and players at his height or shorter. Patrick Kane is 5'10, 177. Brayden Point is 5'10, 183. Trocheck, Tatar, Quinn Hughes, Aho.. Their all 5'10 175-185 lbs. And those are just the guys at 5'10.

How can you criticize the kid when he played all of 2 games this season and just 20 last. Im going to assume its a lot easier to put on weight and muscle than it is to conjure up talent out of thin air. And since he already has it, I'm sure he'll be fine.

I'll also go out on a limb and say his couches, parents, and youtube probably told him.. hey you know this full contact sport hockey that you play, you might get injured from time to time. Criticize patrick all you want, I know I do, but jeez, can you give the kid a full season at least.

How many stars make it to free agency? Not many if any. The legitimate star of that offseason was Tavares, who wanted to go home. JvR wanted to go home, so right away that has nothing to do with whether or not Philly can bring in stars out of free agency.

Since 2011 we’ve brought in Jagr, LeCavalier, JvR and Hayes. All of which were the top names in their perspective UFA class. So what is the argument here, the Flyers can’t bring in top UFAs, when they’ve done it four times in ten years? You wanna sign a star every year? Is that your argument?

Difference is Couts was contributing in a big way defensively and was an engaged player. Patrick looks like he is playing in fear. I would still give him another year nothing to lose and everything top gain but I hold out very very little hope

Hextall as a drafter is completely overrated! Like you said, no home runs, a lot of middling players and too many duds with high picks, including Patrick (which Hextall overrided his scouts to draft), Rubtsov, NAK, Laberge and Ratcliffe. It speaks volumes that out of the Flyers' current top 12 prospects, Fletcher drafted 6 of them just in the last 2 drafts!
