Am I crazy or does that actually say that there was only 3 guys that scored a shootout attempt all year? If so, that’s beyond pathetic. |

Insane. Earlier in his career, Giroux was must watch for the shootout attempts. He still has some really nice ones but I wish he would be a little more creative. |

I wasn’t able to respond on the last page but the idea that we can’t bring in UFAs to Philly is an exaggeration and not true. We brought in Hayes and JvR before that. It wasn’t that long ago we brought in LeCavalier and Jagr within the last ten years. What he posted about UFAs coming to Philly isn’t true.
Too many overreactions and being over dramatic by this fan base. Patrick had a horrid season along with many Flyers...but we wanna bring in Seth Jones who had a down year. Some look at Patrick Laine as a player who won’t hack it moving forward. The kid is clearly unhappy and trying to play his way out of Columbus like Taylor Hall. Even if I’m wrong, anyone can improve under better circumstance.
I expect improvement in play from all our players and around the league by players who had a down year. This year was unusual to say the least |

Bill, Patrick can't be 0-3 on the shooutout, he scored on one in March against Buffalo. |

|
Didn't they trade for Hayes so he wouldn't hit free agency? |

”Teams that have finished inside the top 10 in the league standings during the regular season have won the Cup in 18 of the last 20 playoffs. In other words, in the last 20 years, only two teams seeded lower than 10th in the NHL have won the Cup — the 2019 St. Louis Blues and 2012 Los Angeles Kings. The 2012 Kings were analytics darlings whose numbers looked much stronger than their standings position, while the Blues were not only tied in points for the 10th seed but were projected as legit contenders before the 2018-19 season started.”
Read the above in the Athletic this morning. This team has a long way to go before they’re in a top ten position in my opinion. This off-season is going to be so important for Fletcher and the rest of the management team to address the teams short-comings, defense and goaltending.
Relying on Carter Hart to carry the load is on par with Hextall stupidly relying on Patrick to fill the second line center role at age 19. Hart is young he needs a someone, like a younger Moose, who can carry the load WITH him.
The defense, well, where do we start....there’s a lot of work to be done back there. Hopefully it’s addressed this summer. |

It isn’t an exaggeration. The flyers do not attract the top end free agents any more. The proof is in the pudding. Jagr was 10 years ago and Vinny was at the end of the road. They don’t even get a seat at the table anymore it seems. So tell us how it isn’t true? Have any top end elite free agents given Philly the time if day in the last decade?
With Hayes and JVR they overpaid; they are not top end elite players.

Flyers statistical year in review lists Patrick as 0-for-3 but you are correct. |

JvR was coming off a 37-goal season and had at least 7 offers. Hayes never made it to free agency. He wouldn't have had a problem getting offers.

Neither one are top end elite level players in same vain as Panerin, Tavares, AP and several others.
No one said he wouldn't have a problem getting offers. Flyers overpaid imo. You can disagree. |

Flyers were 6th leaguewide in record in 2019-20. They were 5th (in points percentage) heading into March before their free-fall.
Not denying that the Flyers have a lot of improvements they MUST make. But the gap isn't as wide as some make it out to be. |

I don't disagree that they are not in the Hart/Art Ross/Norris category of players. But they were targeted and signed. Tavares, Panarin and AP handpicked their destinations: only one of which (Vegas) was also simultaneously a top echelon contender at the time.

Knew that would be the response on those players they handpicked their destinations. Yet they did talk to other teams. Just not the Flyers; as I said not even a seat at the table anymore. Didn't even hear them out.
So name 1 free agent or trade candidate you think will be in a flyers uniform next season. I say Risto. What do you think Bill; give a name.

I think the issues, at least for me, are the core guys who carried that 19/20 team are now two years older and declining even further. Moreover, younger players coming up through the system just aren’t there in plentiful supply and ready to step in.
Yes, Farabee seems to have been a great pick, but, guys like Patrick, Frost, Ratcliffe, Rubtsov, etc aren’t going to step in and fill offensive roles. There’s a an age gap void forming. |

I don't get why people are writing off Frost. He had every bit as good of a training camp as Farabee in January, showed sufficient promise as a rookie, and was a prolific junior scorer before that. The shoulder injury was unfortunate but there's no reason why he can't still turn out fine.

You can't write him off and in the same breath count on him. He shows he has the goods he will play and figure it out at that time. |

Because every single off season we hear about him and every single season he’s never stuck with the big club. Not writing him off but are we really counting on a guy that has never held a spot on the nhl roster ? It’s his what 4th pro season now? |

lol Hayes said publicly he only came here because we overpaid. and JVR? He wanted to be comfortable near home, we didn't have to convince him to come here.
and Lecavalier HATED it here and couldn't wait to leave! |

Hayes and jvr what awesome signings. You over paid for middling talent. Patrick sucks until further notice, there’s not excuse for how awful he was this season. I’m all for going after a Jones and Laine , those guys may have had down years but actually have proved they can play. |
