Nicely placed shot and a little bit of luck from Vasi being screened. I’ll take it. |

Let’s go!!!
Great second for FL, TB will certainly bring it in the third. Gotta find a way to nail this win down. |

Funny how I said in today’s blogs that it’s frustrating seeing those guys not do anything and then in one shift, Huby feeds Barky for a one-timer that goes off Hornqvist and in.
I’m more than happy to eat my words…Haha. |

Matt,
I highly recommend Home Run Inn as the best frozen pizza; Chicago's very own.

BB&T was loud and proud last night. Capacity upped to 14,000. All the seats around me were full, so I'm not sure why they even had a limit. Not too many TB fans there, maybe only a couple hundred. I expected a lot more with the big, last-minute ticket availability push. For the third game in a row, they put a rally towel on every permitted seat.
Anthem boy Martin Flores got pulled for a female singer, not sure how many bad goals he was responsible for though. Maybe Q just wanted to shake things up. The Panthers fans shouted "red" at the usual point on the rockets' red glare, but also shouted "Knight" at the gave proof through the night line. It was quite inspiring.
Knight gave one up less than a minute into the first. Not a good start to his playoff experience, but he didn't seem shaken at all. (Didn't he also let in a quick one in his first NHL start? Maybe there's a pattern here.) He played like a guy who's done that and been there before. He settled down and slammed the door shut. 55 seconds into the game and the Tampa Bay highlight reel was done for the evening.
Goaltending overall was pretty good all night. Either team could have had three more goals along the way. Panthers maintained the pressure, played a decent D, and managed to grab the lead after 2 periods.
TB put a couple hits on Barkov early and had Hornqvist riled up again as the physical play continued from prior games. I am very impressed with Lomberg's ability to chase the puck into a corner and get three Lightning tied up there with him. Lomberg also drew a magnificent interference call that I'm sure the TB side is complaining about.
Incredibly, unbelievably, Yandle even tried to put a hip check on a Lightning player. Yandle's timing was off and he was on the late side, but it really appeared to be an attempt to make a physical play. I wonder if the Panthers staff tried some hypnosis? Even with one attempted hit, I'd prefer Yandle watched the game from the box rather than the bench. I didn't see (notice), him playing in the third after the PP goal at least.
The PP goal to open the third put Tampa back on their heels and forced them to attempt to open up, but Panthers were well positioned in the passing lanes and Spencer did his job when the Lightning did break through.
Vatrano's empty netter sealed the deal and brought both relief and a super surge of enthusiasm to the arena.
Maroon's cross-checking face shot on Acciari at the subsequent face off was the poster child for TB cheap shots all series. Acciari clearly wasn't expecting it and Maroon made no attempt to play the puck on the face off, just charged at Acciari. It will be interesting to see if the League intervenes.
At game 1, the team was introduced as the Panthers team you've been waiting for. Game 5 was the game we've been waiting for. Spencer Knight would appear to be the goalie we've been waiting for; clearly a potential superstar in the making.
Go Panthers! |

Just horrible plays by those guys. I'm fine with old school hockey but just cheapshoting people is just garbage.
Remarkable difference in watching a game in Florida with few masks and heavy stadium capacity and the Jets-Oilers game with out anyone in the stands. No making a political statement. Just saying it is strikingly noticeable.
Glad to see the Cats get a win and seeing Spencer Knight was awesome. Disappointed with how often Tampa bay hit people up high and seem to hit with the intent to injury. Refs really sat on their whistles. But typical playoff hockey.
Good luck the rest of the way. |

Oh yeah, Jimbo…we crush a lot of Home Run Inn pizzas as well! I just like to mix it up sometimes and get something different.
Had to be awesome being at the game last night!
