In Price's defence, nobody expected Rielly to actually hit the net.

All of us included.

ill wait for the Leafs-Habs series to end before I fully jump in on the loilers garbage fire, but man is it fun to watch another team get hot take'd into oblivion

I just think it's kinda sad.

It's sad for McDavid, who is wasting his career.

And it's sad for Oilers fans, who know this isn't going to end well.

I honestly don't know what they can do - how do you start over with McDavid and Draistatl locked in?

If we're talking about goalies in the playoffs, we should actually look at team play first.

Toronto has allowed the second fewest High Danger chances / 60 @ 7.3 (Colorado leads with 6.5), which is better than 3rd place Boston's 8.3 by a good margin. You could argue that's more the Habs not breaking through and not getting sustained pressure down low, but I think the Leafs' D has done an admirable job through 3 games. The team allowing the most High Danger chances? The Jets (14.4). So I think Hellebuyck's performance against the Oilers can't be overstated enough.

Ultimately if you take the xGA minus the actual GA to determine who's getting the best goaltending, the Jets are first (1.39), the Leafs are second (.83) and the Habs are third (.74), so comparing Campbell to Price and being unable to determine who's been better? That's why. They've both been fantastic.

By the way Chris Dreidger has been the worst goalie in the playoffs by a mile - averaging -1.5 goals against per game that he should have saved by GSAA.

I do feel for Mcdavid, none of its his fault. Best player hands down and still nothing to show for it. Still havent put the right GM in place imo

It was all Helly is what the analytics people will say. Oilers are awesome but got stymied by a goalie and just the goalie. 🥴

Same here..

I expected Rielly to look off Matthews and shoot it into the shins of a nearby Habs player..

I was born the 23 child of a poor Peruvian coal miner in Ottawa. Given that there were no coal mines in Ottawa, things were tough at home and we were forced to watch Montreal Canadien hockey games for medical experiments. Luckily, one day Enrique found a Roch Carrier story book and we learned that there was another way. That knowledge and the warmth from chewing on the cocoa leaf (very similar in look to the stylized look on the current TML jersey) kept us going.

it's gotta be hard for McDavid... Probably feels like he is always playing 1 on 5 every even strength shift..

Is it fair to say 'just the goalie', when it's your own goalie screwing you over?

People say Price was out of position - but he was making the educated guess that Rielly would (once again) shoot wide across the front of the net, so that the puck would ring around the boards and create a 2 on 1 for the Habs going the other way.

Depends, watch the game nerd!!!

If it’s a barrage of odd mans and a 1 timers probably not. If it’s a bunch of goals like Rielly’s and Suzuki’s last night then yes.

While as you correctly state, Rielly does have an aversion to shooting (and his shot is lousy and inaccurate) , his aversion pales in comparison to Marner's. Goodness, Marner must have had 3 or 4 clear looks from slot or close and chose to pass it into the corner to Matthews or Hyman.

Hellebuyck was awesome. The analytics back it up, but if you watched the games, you know he made great saves. He stopped breakaways and one-timers. He stopped a lot of in-tight, close shots and chances. The problem, if you're Edmonton, is that the Jets managed to contain McDavid somewhat. He took 19 hits in a 4 game series - the most of any Oiler.

Maurice is a solid coach and knows how to defense. The Jets have also bought into him, so even though their defensive group is a bit thin, they play well.

Price was playing the percentages... there was a 99% chance Rielly would miss the net

what about point shots like Josh Morrisey's goal or shots from the face off dot like Ehlers goal or like the winner last night by Kyle Connor?

Out of 25ish roster players, how much turnover could a GM achieve by trading some guys away?

Oilers should probably just keep McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Yamamoto, Klefbom, Nurse and Larsson. Plus a few prospects.

7 roster players.
Trade the other guys away, maybe buy out a few guys.
Bring in some guys via trades, and sign UFAs, maybe offersheet a guy?

I think it is the only way - almost have to approach this in a similar way as an expansion draft like Vegas did and Seattle is going to do..
Only like that the message to McDavid is clear that you really want him to succeed.

Not sure which GM would be the best to lead a team through such an off-season though.. definitely not Holland.

I didn’t watch, but people are saying they need a new GM. Sounds like they need a goalie who seemed to have a pretty good year. Were they good goals? (Screens or tips ) or were they soft like a couple last night in our game?
