How many high draft picks do they need before they stop needing high draft picks? If the direction of being a terrible team led by a terrible GM doesn't change soon, the first high draft pick is going to age out before they're competitive. - NewYorkNuck
The next 3 drafts. Have to be in on the Bedard sweepstakes. |

I would think anyone taking on Schmidt's cap will get a pick or have Canucks retain some salary.
Although I doubt that he gets moved this year, due to the lack of nhl calibre defensemen this team has, even if him and Myers are only #4 calibre. - Reubenkincade
Retaining salary in any trade of an outgoing player is the opposite of freeing up cap space to challenge for the playoffs. |

Vancouver doesn't have a lot to offer other teams.
I wouldn't make a trade with Seattle. The trades are probably what made VGK who they are.
The picks to not take players as well were used in other trades. - manvanfan
They have picks and prospects and reject JV plus Tree's rights.
A team might take something cause the next tier of exposed players not valued as much.
But there may be equal opportunity post e-draft if teams see someone like Schmidt/Myers/Holtby filling holes on e-draft losses they can't UFA it. |

Not disagreeing, but for an average #4 defenseman, you won't find any GM willing to take on a 5.95 million dollar contract without something going the other way, whether it is a retention, or a pick/prospect.
Not sure why you called me out on this, when there have been many posts lately, with player x being dealt with some type of retention/picks going the other way.😁 |

It's far off but Bedard, Fantilli and Michkov is going to be a 2023 draft for the ages.
Whoever Dalibor Dvorsky is has 4 points in 20 games in the Slovakian mens league as a 15 year old this year. |

If Van misses the playoffs next year they'll all get fired anyway - NorthNuck
True so they should give goalie coach IC Baumer's position and double his salary. |

I wonder if the Oilers would be interested in 5'6 170 lb Palmu and 5'7 139 lb Manukyan. They would fit in nicely on that team. |

Sorry to have hurt your feelings. I wasn’t meaning to call you out, just mentioning that the goal, as stated, will be to do everything in their power to push for the playoffs. It’s a real worst to first mentality. But retaining salary and then replacing the player, presumably at a similar salary will increase the cap pressure, so it doesn’t really seem like a viable option. Now, if the goal was to to compete after two more seasons then retaining salary on Holtby, or Beagle, or Rous would be good ways of acquiring assets for the future that you could then use to enhance your lineup in the future. |

I think they do for two more years, about the same time his KHL deal expires, so he’s virtually worthless. Why give something up if you can wait the weekend and then negotiate. |

Using the Avalanche as an example, they picked Landeskog in 2011, 2nd OA, I believe and in 2019 picked Byram 4th OA, with many other high picks in between, so that is 9 years of drafting. |

Analyse which teams are projecting to have a lotto picks that year. Then trade now to a desperate GM like HABS/STARS a Schmidt or Myers for their 2023 first. |

Funny they used to say that about Tanev and worse. Amazing how players not on the Canucks become shiny toys. While once on Nuck roster the slurping starts on their turd ratio. |

Out of pure curiosity and not trying to poke, what is your timeline?
I can only take the Canucks now from JB's timeline, and that's to be competitive/playoffs the last couple years and moving forward... which clearly isn't happening, and it sets up bad paradigms of buying when they shouldn't just to make the playoffs, and that in turn limits their future. |
