if campbell would lose 3 in a row, he would be done for next season as well...

i would play campbell game 5.
70% chance he wins that.
if he wins, he'll get the start in game 1 round 2.

however, if he loses, you go with andersen for game 6 - i don't like leafs hypothetical chances for that game, but it's a good opportunity for freddy to win his teammates confidence back, and to get both of these guys ready.
i have never been a big freddy fan, but some of you guys are acting as if andersen is toskala...

- MaximusAurelius

No one is calling him Toskala. If the Leafs win game 5 and face the Jets, it should still be Campbell for the 2nd rd as well... Unless, the Leafs lose the first three games in that series

Only way Andersen sees the net is if Campbell gets hurt or clearly sh!ts the bed in a game.

This idea of starting Anderson in game 6 is asinine unless Campbell really falters.

- Leafs43

I'm guessing there's nobody in the Habs' thread suggesting that Allen gets the net.

And quite frankly, there's a better case to be made for that than giving Andersen a start.

Just so I'm clear, it would be a stupid idea to give Allen the start, but there's a better case to be made for that than giving Andersen a start.

that's a really short leash for Campbell.. If the Leafs lose 1-0 on Thursday, do you still go Andersen in Game 6?
- PatC80

No.

In fact, even if Campbell gets shelled and they lose 6-0 I don't go with Andersen next game.

I don't think you want the goalies to be that on edge all the time.

The only possible reason was in the back to back but there haven’t been overtimes and Campbell hasn’t been worked that hard

Definitely stupid..

Giving Allen a start is a bad idea, because Price has been really good
Giving Andersen a start is a bad idea, because Campbell has been really good.

Goaltending has not been the issue for either team in the first four games..

Agreed..
Even if Campbell gives up 7 goals on 6 shots, you start him again in Game 6. (hopefully, it doesn't get to that)

Yeah, and even then, Andersen has not had much work for a while now. I think that is part of Wedgie's point. You could probably make a better argument for Allen over Price... and there is no way I would take Price out of the net.

His play this year was not that far off from Vesa Toskala. I don't have much faith in THIS Andersen.

There were 58 goalies who played more than 800 minutes this year (all situations). Andersen's GSAA/60 was 49th in the league @ -0.35. Ryan Miller was at -0.77 and knew it was time to retire. Matt Murray was at -0.47 and Ottawa knew they had made a HUGE mistake. Andersen knows what he's worth, and knows he's a great goalie.

In 2007-08, there were 55 goalies who played more than 800 minutes. Raycroft was 55th @ -1.06. Toskala was 37th with -0.15.

The next year, when Toskala truly crapped the bed, 59 goalies qualified and Toskala was 55th @ -0.54.

The Toronto Maple Leafs in 2007 & 2008 were not good teams, finishing last in their division with 83 & 81 points. This year's Toronto team would have projected to a 113 point season, so there's reason to expect more from Andersen who faced the fewest high danger chances per game in a Toronto uniform this year. The year-over-year, High Danger shots against for Andersen since arriving in Toronto has been: 8.1, 8.6, 8.2, 7.9, 7.7, so there is a notable improvement.

Unless Campbell discernibly cracks, I wouldn't be giving the crease to Freddy at all.

Who is TroyTech and why did we waste time on this?

So, trade for McDavid or Draisaitl?

if you truly want to give andersen a confidence boost, without taking something away from campbell, that would be a logical solution though.
- MaximusAurelius

No its playoffs.
I dont give a fack about confidence of someone who may never see a game.

100% agree with you. It's Campbell's net now.. Playing Andersen because you feel like you owe it to him, is a dumb idea.

Campbell stays in the net win or lose tomorrow.

I don't think it's fair to look at Freddy's numbers this year - the guy was clearly playing hurt, and stayed in between the pipes because we had no alternative.

Having said that, Campbell is the better goalie right now.

In professional sports, that's all that matters.

If we win tomorrow (sorry Wedge), think of how awesome it will be to have all of Canada forced to root for a team from Winnipeg just because of if their hatred of all things Toronto. The Leafs will have truly become Canada’s team.
