My understanding is that they were discussing how jacked some of these guys are immmediately beforehand. So, steroids maybe? or maybe he really just meant anything.

I think it's quite clear it was not a homophobic statement, just a bad attempt at humour really.

Ron Maclean has a dry, witty sense of humour, and it worked beside Don Cherry. Because Cherry was busy throwing out ridiculous statments, and Ron would sit back and throw a bunch of jabs that went totally over Don's head, and that was part of the humour of it. It wasn't really belly busting jokes, just more "I see what you did there" type stuff.

as someone who follows hockey and knows what tarp off means..I wasnt sure what he meant by the comment..

I believe their explanation was that the play in was part of the "post season", and that's why the stats were not included in the regular season stats.

But it was not considered "playoffs".
