that would be my guess...

I don't think you'll ever see another 3 goal, 32 point Norris trophy winner again.

- PatC80

Chara was the last of that kind and he was only given credit because he scored that year. Jacob Slavin won't get the votes, but he's probably deserving of some.

Chara had 50 points that year, and almost had 20 goals. A lot better than 3 goals and 29 assists.

Updated list of players who annoy me (which usually means they're doing a good job):

Matthews
Nylander
Holl
Muzzin
Hyman
Kerfoot
Galchenyuk

That last one not really for his overall play but that 3 points night just stings.

How are you not blocked by him yet like everyone else
- BINGO!

Its funny because he is starting to talk a lot about prospects...He knows he is about to find zero enjoyment from the Habs so he is mentally preparing himself

I think he was banned as well. Maybe not. I'll still tell him to go (frank) himself again if needed. I'll gladly take bans for feeding racist idiots their lunch. Ever notice each time someone makes a racist comment KKKap comes running to defend it?

he has been great.

he is a puck hound and a great forechecker, he is transforming his game and its obvious he still has the skill.

He is turning his career around

Lidstrom was runner up 3 times before he won his 7.

Not that I think Norris trophies are truly an objective measure of a d-man's actual worth, but here's Bourque's Norris voting resume:

1st: 5
2nd: 6
3rd: 4
4th: 4
7th: 3

There wasn't a single year he finished outside of the Top 7. That's absurd.

The thing with Carlyle though, he still put up really good offensive numbers.. How do you explain Rod Langway winning the award twice?
- PatC80

It was 83 & 84. I wasn't paying much attention, and I think you weren't even born yet . . .

I don't know, but I would bet on a hunch that there was a media upswelling of voting for defensive players over offensive defensemen, because that's not what the award was intended for (even though it had always been voted on that way previously).

I recall reading about how after Langway left the Habs for the Capitals, the Habs had like 60 more goals against in the following year, and the Capitals improved by over 50. Langway was also 4th in Hart voting in 1982-83. So there was definitely some sort of media-driven frenzy going on.

I can't say I've noticed him much, points from game 4 aside.

But good for him, guess he'll stick in the NHL a little while longer.

Yeah well the first game he had around 9 mins of play...Not easy to get noticed like that.

He has been consistent in his forecheck since he was traded here. Offence seems to be clicking more as we go along.

Slavin finished 5th in Norris voting last year on a 43 point pace. This year any votes he would have gotten will probably be eaten up by Hamilton instead.

And he’ll probably sit when JT comes back. And come back in if somebody else gets hurt.

I love his Top "insert arbitrary cutoff number that makes him feel good about things" lists

the habs have 8 players taken in the top 74

Replying to
@grantmccagg
Apologies...it will be eight top 50 (Brook was 56th overall)...possibly nine depending on Tampa pick.

2 or 3 2021 picks
Guhle
Tuch
Mysak
Ylonen
Struble
Poehling

All solid prospects...also Norlinder, Primeau, Farrell, etc.

iv heard of 2 of these players

Not so sure about that.

He will have a say in that for how he plays the next little while.

He is playing his way over Simmonds that's for sure.

Those ARE great jerseys.

Not sure Francis has the stomach to offer what it would take though. Depends on how competitive he plans on them being.

Its so pathetic. You can make just about any of the top 20 prospect pools look great. The only sure things are the stars at the top of the list...the rest are crap shoots who will likely be NHL tweeners.

Its playoffs and the dude is talking about prospects The series isnt even over and the Leafs are already in his head.

I was really critical of Simmonds towards the end of the season but he’s been very effective so far. Fourth line has done really well in moving the puck up the ice and j7st generally (frank)ing up Habs. You can’t compare that to second line stuff.

I really like the Habs blogger here, best one they have had IMO.

Even still, the remark about the refereeing came out.

The Habs had more PP and the series is probably very close to even. The Habs are also the ones initiating the physical play and the dirty stuff.

I have no idea what the basis is for thinking the Habs should get even more powerplays. That observation is not valid, in the slightest.

- Aetherial

I said it in the Nucks blog before the Leafs-Habs series started if TO got the goaltending the Habs would be lucky to win one game and they have. This series is over no point in whining about refs it's not like the Habs are getting screwed on the Gilmour missed call from 93' like the Leafs did lol
