Thanks. The substance of the vision is secondary to me. Actually having a vision is the part we need.
"We want players who want to be here" is not a plan
It's a reaction to negativity caused by the lack of a plan.
They need to stop being reactionary and start being proactive. That can't happen until they outline a plan. If they have an actual plan, they have no interest in sharing it with fans which is friggin infuriating. - Hank Balling
Yeah I think vision is an over rated term for where we are.
Step 1 is - can you identify good players yet? |

Agree 100%.
Just that I don't want, in fact I wont watch another Sabres game that strives to play a Xefense at all costs style anymore. I turned off more games 5 - 10 minutes in during the 1st 28 of this season than I have in 5 or 10 years.
Start to play like the Avs, Bolts, Panthers, etc...or bye, bye.
I don't think I'm alone. |

I dont want to make this a female dog-fest on my part about Botterill, but there hasn't been a plan since Tim Murray tried (and failed) to win now.
Botterill talked about building for the future but spent assets on stupid crap that he could have gotten for free on the waiver wire. Did he ever try to win? Sort of, but sort of not.
In the 2020 season under Adams, they didn't really spend assets to win but they added a bunch of bad stuff for too many years (seemingly) in an attempt to win now
So what's the point here? What are we doing? |

I get the sentiment, but I disagree.
Yes, absolutely need to identify good players that fit your style of play...but that is Tactical on the scale I outlined above. Without consistency in direction, you end up with exactly where the Sabres D was this past 2 seasons...puck movers in system that virtually deplores them...disconnected. |

Adams was doing anything he could to placate Capatain Jack. That's it. That's all.
I guess, according to 89, that is over with...except now they might middle it by trying to keep Sam....bad move if true |

All the chatter year round on Kuemper. If you’re are watching the World Championship he’s not looking good. |

I think when you try and get players that fit a certain identity, you can fall victim to acquiring bad players who maybe have a desired attribute, but overall have a negative on ice impact |

Old and extremely average. Not sure why anyone wanted to give up any kind of asset for him. Some in here wanted to trade a 1st 😂 |

That sounds like a player who doesn't fit the vision supported by the system.
That is a failure on the Front Office, IMO of course.
If you don't know where you are going, any road takes you there.
That is exactly what this team has falled victum to...that and a constantly changing direction...
Small, fast, skilled, puck possession >>> Big, tough, hard to play against, cycle >>>> North/South, fast, puck moving D >>>> Defense 1st, 2nd, 3rd, dump and chase
It has been a cluster fvck. |

Acquire as many talented players as possible.
Tailor your system to fit the players that you have to the best of your ability.
That’s all I’ve got. |

That's fine to say, but what's the vision required to get there?
For Murray, it was trade for them at the expense of futures. Failure.
For Botterill, it was go to the bottom of the league repeatedly and attempt to surround them with mediocre talent via trading mid-round picks. That sucked.
I think the Sabres owe it to their fan base to at least explain the thought process behind what they're doing now. Maybe no one knows.
No one will say "We need to make the playoffs" except viking55 |

I believe the core of your team needs to be drafted and developed.
Avoid the big fishes in free agency, use free agency for role guys, ditto the trade market.
Once you are considered a cup contender then you can possibly overpay in assets in the forms of trades to try to put you over the top and deal draft capital. |
