cozens doesn't look the part of a first line center right now
zegrass on the other hand does
perfetti is clearly way ahead of quinn right now - homiedclown
IMO, you are looking at back end 1C for both COzens and Zegras anyways, if they hit their ceilings. Neither were/are consistent top 10/15 centers in the NHL. We'll see how they turn out, but I'm happy with Cozens and his development so far. Point totals be damned, he showed grit, playmaking and with some better linemates, the points will come.

I had Cozens to the Wings at 6 and Zegras to the Sabres at 7.
So if I’m staying true to my board I would have taken Cozens > Zegras but it’s as close to call now as it was back then.
Zegras will be the better point producer, I think Cozens will be the more dominant 200 foot player.

Choose your flavour I guess. - Pegullaville
Both will be good. I'm not too worried about Cozens, and especially not worried about passing Caufield. He'll prolly be a good player, but so will Cozens. I'm more worried about Rossi/Perfetti being really good and Quinn just being serviceable. Don't think he'll be Nylander bad, but don't see top line winger. Again, hope I'm wrong about it and he's a stud.

You mean like Pegullaville wanting Leon Draisatl at 2 in 2014 over Sam? Or gerbe wanting Cole Caufield at 7 over Cozens? Or Perfetti over Quinn last year?
ALL of these fan-suggested moves would have been better than what actually took place. - RichardRoma
Cole is going to be an outstanding player but i was wrong about cozens he will be a very good number 2

I had Quinn going around 12.
Rossi, Perfetti, Lundell, Jarvis ranked ahead of him.
If Quinn ends up better than them then everyone on here can let me here about it.

Meh.
I think we have learned the Prospect Rankings for the NHL Draft are not the most accurate.
At their age when selected and playing against kids 16 & 17 it is difficult to project development.
imo it is more about picking who you like...style of play, size, etc. More than this guy is going to score 10 more points a season in 5 years.
Cozens at best is a 2nd line center. He doesn’t have the god given talent to be a 1C
Could be a good 2C though
If we trade Eichel and force Cozens into a 1C role. It won’t end well. Think Derek Roy post briere and drury. He wasn’t a 1C and forced to play there and struggled

Good post. The idea that we know the potential of these kids and if they are developed properly, they'll reach it, is straight out of video games. A lot times, the projections are just off and there's really no one to blame.

He's 20, give him a chance and give him some talent on his wings and let's see.

There is no fool proof system. Even the best of organizations miss on picks. Tampa drafted Point, Kucherov, Cirelli outside of the first round and took guys like Slater koekkoek and Brett Connolly in the top 10.
Bruins struck gold with Bergeron, Marchand, Oasternak, McAvoy but completely whiffed in 2015 (Zboril, Debrusk, Seneyshen) when the likes of Barzal, Connor, Chabot were the following 3 picks.
It’s not a coincidence that some teams draft better than others though, to be lucky you need to be good.

You don't have to put up 100 points to be a 1c either though, like a Bergeron, Kopitar, Blues center who shall not be named. If we add a Zegras type center you very well could have Cup caliber team With Cozens and Zegras as 1a/1b, granted they both develop accordingly.

It will be interesting to see what we have with Mittelstadt. Maybe he can become a quality 2C talent after all.
At the very least he looks like he can hold the 3C position down.
