Val d’Or just got knocked out of the playoffs which mean Pelletier’s junior career is likely done. He finished this season 13 goals 43 points in 28 games along with 5 goals 23 points in 14 playoff games (As per hockeydb so I’m unsure as to wether stats from today’s game have been updated into that yet)
Personally I would like to see him and zary start in the AHL next year for 2 reasons.
1) we really can’t afford to screw these two guys up so erring on the side of caution is the route I think we should take
2) after the mark jankowski experience I’m hesitant to pencil these guys into the lineup without a backup plan if things don’t go as well as hoped

The Gold Medal game between Canada and Finland starts Sunday at 11am MT .
Here's a bit of background from the Hockey Canada website:
" We have one last chance to watch in wonder as Canada’s top line does its thing in Riga. Despite missing the first three games, Mangiapane is tied for the tournament lead with seven goals, Connor Brown sits atop the scoring race with 13 points and Adam Henrique has 10 of his own. They have been the engine that has driven the Canadian comeback.
And about that comeback … would this be the most unlikely Canadian gold medal ever? No Canadian team has ever lost its first three games at the tournament, and since the playoff format began in 1992, no team has ever started 0-3 and won gold. What a story.
As for Finland, it just keeps rolling along. There’s no one player driving the bus – Anton Lundell (4-3—7) is the only Finn in the top 30 of tournament scoring – and it’s finding ways to win despite rarely getting opportunities on the power play (just 13 in nine games) and scoring on just 7.97% of its shots (which is actually slightly ahead of Canada at 7.69%). But the Finns will find ways to smother you defensively (they have given up just 11 goals in nine games, and only five at 5-on-5), and here they are just one win from going back-to-back." |

I agree with you. Let the young guys collect experience. 18-year-old Sam Bennett was a testament to this. Not saying he would have become the player he was expected to be, but I think he would be a much more mature version of the player he is today.

I only mention Sam Bennett because we almost went an entire blog without mentioning him. Dead horses are fun to beat. |

Bennett drafted as a center, played there the first year, 18 goals. Switched to wing, production dropped. Put back at center for playoffs last year, production went up. Back on the wing this year, production drops again. Traded to Florida, back at center, production goes up.
Hmmmmmm? |

Hindsight is 20/20 but it does beg the question of who thought it was a good idea to put him into the NHL after missing a full year due to injury. Even now you see how much Valimaki has struggled to get his career on track after missing important development time. |

Flames finish out of the NHL playoffs yet SIX! (6!) Flames are good enough to play in this tournament, Mangiapane is seriously likely to win the MVP and no one's talking about how it's possible for us to have so many good players on such a crappy team and how 88's perfomance could affect the roster next season?
Sorry. I get carried away sometimes.
So what I'm really curious about is whether Bennett will still be a Panther next season.
Sheesh. |

Was wondering when we’d get a blog. Honestly, it would be cool if three or four of us contributed and filled that role. I’d definitely contribute and write up gamedays if no one does it by 12pm on the day of. - fry

I think we could do better than Tommy TanTan. I would help out. I would toss my name in to wield that Ban Hammer as well. Do we even have someone assigned to this thread? |

We haven't forever, though I think thats more a testament to the fine, upstanding individuals that contribute in a concise, clear and respectful manner, each and every day (mostly)...
Honestly, We usually just need to get someone kick off a topic and we usually roll with it. I'm not an analytics guy. I'll call it the way I see it.

It pretty obvious that Todd has moved on his blogs this year were regurgitated over and over. The 5 things to watch for is just lazy journalism.
I’d like to see Duran with the ban hammer beats some of the mall cops already on the buzz.
Who we getting at 12 some are saying Sillinger but will have to wait to see which team goes off the board with their pick.
This must be what it’s like to be a Canuck or Oiler fan once the playoffs start. Only thing to look forward to is the draft. |

Agreed, think Todd has moved on. Just shocking that there wouldn't be a replacement...
12 will be a crapshoot for sure - said it before, I think the Flames should take a stab at Raty if they can acquire another 1st or if he's still there in the early 2nd, make a move up and get one of the most skilled kids out there.
Flames have made their post 1st round picks pay off in recent years.
I think the other topic of essential interest to this team is who in the top 6 they move on from, regardless of the return. Saw a video on YT last night that a couple of Athletic writers got together to suggest Monahan go to the Sens for someone like Tierney. God I hope they don't make that type of deal.
