Agreed, think Todd has moved on. Just shocking that there wouldn't be a replacement...
12 will be a crapshoot for sure - said it before, I think the Flames should take a stab at Raty if they can acquire another 1st or if he's still there in the early 2nd, make a move up and get one of the most skilled kids out there.
Flames have made their post 1st round picks pay off in recent years.
I think the other topic of essential interest to this team is who in the top 6 they move on from, regardless of the return. Saw a video on YT last night that a couple of Athletic writers got together to suggest Monahan go to the Sens for someone like Tierney. God I hope they don't make that type of deal. - rmull905
I know this is hocey buzz. But normally you would say thanks to your readers, and have a farewll blog. Its not a hard thing to do.

He's likely still around but this blog is clearly not a priority! We know he rarely reads the responses so who knows. I appreciated the semi-occasional posts, even if regurgitated.
I think who we pick at 12 is such a crap shoot. My great wonder, well min light bulb sized, is who The Kraken take from this team. We have to leave Gio exposed and I hope we don't sell our franchise souls making a backroom deal to have the Kraken grab someone else. I honestly suspect it will be Kylington.
So lets do another round of questions:
Does JG get traded and to whom?
Would we consider Lundqvist if he were available in a back up role (yes I know he'd not likely come here but would we take him if able?
What does Mangipane get for his next contract?
Does Sutter bring in any of "his" people?
Anyone going to Stampede this year? |

Treliving traded Todd for future considerations. Maybe he’ll go after Carol in free agency. |

JG is staying
Lundquist would make a interesting backup but no way he plays for peanuts
If AM keeps improving he’ll get 5-5.5 next contract. Just shows what a good signing Lindholm was and what a bad signing Tkachuk will be.
Sutters going to have some influence on the makeup of this team would love to see him bring in guy like Regier to handle the D
Won’t make the Stampede this year as I’ll barely be out of quarantine in time and will probably frequent all the breweries in K Town

I have no idea what happened to Tkachuk this year. But if he was a piece to bring in Eichel I would do it.
Is Stampede still as fun if no one is there?
Now is the best time to go to Galapagos. No one there. |

I honestly think it started at the players meeting after the Muzzin puck flip. Its like the give a (frank) switch flipped to off. He's young and I suspect Sutter likes his game and he will be given more room to be a wiener. Hopefully that brings his all around game back.
I'm curious what DT will look like. I already got my email for the Wildhorse Saloon... A poop show it will not be, thats for sure. I suspect we won't see any tag team videos either this year.
I just want to travel anywhere!!!! Huatulco is on my mind, Maui, Aruba...sigh. |

I am going to start working out of Antofagasta. Opens up Terra del Fuego, Barriloche, Mendoza, Salar Uyuni, Montevideo, and beaches in Brazil on my time off. Pretty excited to see something different.
Haley Salvian from the Athletic believes that if the Flames leave Gio unprotected he will not get picked up by Seattle. I tend to agree. They will want to use their precious cap space in other ways. |

I think the locker room needs a shift purely based on this change to Chucky's game. Unacceptable in my view that the POM shifted his game that dramatically. When I played sports, I was always more the "do as I do" kind of leader and wanted me team to compete as hard as possible and to have my back as I had theirs. That POM pretty clearly seems to have told Chucky no one had his back, and they didn't want him stirring the pot.
He listened, which is sometimes what good leaders need to do, but that team was 100% not the same after that meeting and I blame the other leaders in that room for not letting him be the player that he's always been and they guy that goes to war for himself and his teammates.
Hope Sutts tells him to get back to it next year too.
I likewise need to travel. Just planned a trip with the lads to Vegas for the 2022 football draft and now I need to find something near term to a beach (Bora Bora, Mexico, Bahamas - I don't even care at this point)

Jealous in ways I can't describe. The wife is female doging about winters here, hates the snow... I've got one kid left (16) and It'll be time for a paradigm shift. Working remotely from ( insert warm tropical location here) sounds just fine to me...
Would tend to agree but it depends on who else they plan to take from other rosters. A veteran presence (not a veteran lineup) would sure help as they will also have a crop of young players to try and build a competitive team with. |

A few of the fellas and I turned 50 last year and we were supposed to do a big Nashville trip (which btw I would take over Vegas) so we are trying to make it happen in the fall. See a Titans game, Pred's game, get obliterated, etc... Fingers crossed!

Nice!! We're all turning 40 this year and wanted to go this summer too, but travel is so (frank)ed right now, can't afford the quarantine on either side of the border. Hoping by the fall this sorts itself out so I can get to Hawaii or something like that.
A buddy of mine also got Raider season tickets down there, so if stuff opens up this fall, might see if I can sway the lads into a trip down there for a game

Not sure how I feel about Gelly leaving, but Sutts needs to form his own staff and Gelinas has been a holdover from a couple of coaches now, so probably time.
This is going to be a team heavy on accountability next year. Sutter/Muller don't (frank) around, and you've got 2 former AHL head coaches behind the bench next year.
This should be interesting.

Flames seem to be grooming Gelinas for upper management. Not a bad thing. Have never heard him being mentioned for a coaching job in any rumours. Maybe we should ask EK.

Well, at least we will have a nice touchy-feely coaching staff that will make sure the player's happiness comes first.

Has anyone ever heard Sutter talk about Aalytics? He seems smart enough to understand they are important but old school enough to not really give a damn.

Not a word. I think analytics have their place, but I think coaching is more about feel in the NHL than pure analytics.
If the on-ice product was about analytics, I feel like teams would be more strategic about how they play an opponent. Like, (frank) the drop pass for a team known to play an aggressive forechecker on the PK. Or move Monahan around the ice rather than have him stand still in the slot hoping a low percentage pass makes it to his stick for a low percentage shot.
I get the sense that analytics play more of a role in drafting/free agency rather than an on-ice product.

I have no idea. And it's an interesting question.
With how competitive the major sports are, I like to think things like Corsi and takeaways would be pretty important to back up your "feeling".
In any other business, you would want as much information to make the most informed decisions, cannot see why a professional hockey team would be different.
