Sure there’s other factors but at a certain point it’s time to accept Sid and Geno are not elite producers especially when it comes to playoff hockey.
- Feds91Stammer

Not yet for me..Ive watched it all, understand the factors. If there's other factors, there's other factors. Sometimes you say that playoff hockey isnt any different...so if they produce elite in reg season, then why not playoffs? And dont spit up Geno's numbers this year, when his offseason and conditioning was all f'd but he ended up being dominant for weeks before the injury. He wasnt back to himself in this most recent series, you could see it. Didnt even play the 1st two games.

Also...small sample sizes and sh!t....

Like you you said when I asked, you thought your big boys could of won some more cups after 2008, in their 30's, if the roster around them was right.

Im talking myself more and more into the idea of trading Jake. I think he has great value now but could have problems aging given his size and the beating he has taken over the years.

If a deal involving John Gibson for Jake is on the table.. the Penguins need to take a hard look at it.

I think you replace Jake with someone like Saad or another LWer you can find in FA.

Saad to me is a roller coaster of a player and doesn't, at least IMO, bring that much of dynamic shift from Jake. I think you only move Jake if you're able to bring similar production with a different dynamic, otherwise it's just lateral moves which doesn't really do much.

I don't know how many angles the Pens can look at things from this year when it comes to making changes. It's going to be very complicated with the draft and flat cap. The Pens were very fortunate this year financially to have the level of depth they did all over the lineup, but they won't be as fortunate next season.

It's going to be a complicated balancing act. If the Pens have the chance to get Gibson or someone similar and the price is Jake? You definitely explore it, but you have consider how you're going to replace him. Will it be by overpaying for someone like Landeskog? By getting a couple of wingers with different dynamics and replace his scoring by committee?

This off-season is going to test a lot of GMs.

This was a good roster headed in that was undone by sh!tty goaltending. You can talk about regualr season PDO and that stuff all you want, even though all the playoff teams were tops of the league for PDO, but the fact is the lineup was very battered, bruised and missing a lot of significant pieces during ALL of the regular season. Close to healthy for playoffs except Geno and DeSmith. They outplayed the Isles 4 of the 6 games and the two games they got decent goaltending, not like world class all star goaltending mind you, just good goaltending, they won those games. Thats all they needed was good goaltending, not lights out allstar sh!t, just good goaltending to advance in these playoffs.

I agree it was a good roster that got bounced because of bad goaltending lol

Yeah its its going to be another very interesting offseason and I would imagine a lot of bargains around again with the flat cap.

There's some interesting names out there. I think the bargains will come from the players in their early 30's looking to up their value for the 22/23 season who may take a cheap one year deal, but not sure there's many that fit what the Pens are looking for.

Honestly, in hindsight, I don't think there was really anything Sully could have done to win that series. That's how bad Jarry was. Maybe shuffle the lines a bunch but I really don't think it would have mattered. Systematically I don't even know how many changes they could have made, I feel like a lot of the Isles goals were off the rush, so it's not even like their in-zone coverage was poor.

Well when they started getting bounced in the 1st round every year. Z was 31 and Dats was 33.

Crosby is 33 and Geno is 34.

I really hate the AHL rule about players coming in at certain ages. We have no idea what Poulin and/or Legare will be. Maybe they're going to be solid middle six guys, maybe solid fourth line players or just fringe NHL players, but without a solid year in the AHL they're developmentally still a good year away when they could have been in much better position to challenge for a spot in 21/22.

Teams like the Pens REALLY benefit from young cheap players being able to take on bigger roles, but I can't see anyone really coming in doing that which makes the Pens financial situation that much harder.

Edmonton was smart enough to send Lavoie to Sweden. Feels like there could have been opportunity for those guys to play elsewhere this season.

I didn't know that. That would have been smart. I don't think we'll see Poulin and Legare look much different than they did in last camp since there was nothing done to help their progression. It would be been wise for them play in a pro league somewhere else.

I hate the milquetoast headlines this time of year

"Letang and Malkin say they want to retire as Pens"

Great, Geno, here's your 4 year 16 million dollar extension, Kris, here's your matching 4 year 16 million extension

We factored in the age and injury curve and eventual decline in play. We are happy to have you "retire as Pens" under these future contracts and cap hits

Put your money where your mouth is

It won't happen this way, but it should

Super simple offseason... trade Jake for Gibson, sign landeskog, Oleksiak and dougy Hamilton (no museums clause) Trade Letang and Pettersson for Marcus Foligno and cap space. Matheson will need pinky surgery and be out for the season but back for game 1 of playoffs!
See it’s easy! All good now!
