You mean the best goal-tending tandem in the league? I think a few people thought they were good enough. - Tojo.
I mean, the two of them were KILLING for a time.

I think they even made a movie about it. "March of the Penguins". Too bad that doesn't get you the Stanley Cup.

Jarry had a negative 5v5 GSAA in March per NST. Those stats are deceiving. |

They also played the Devils and Sabres a combined 8 times that month...beat the Bruins 4-1 and lost to them 2-1 in that stretch though as well |

Additionally their GSAAs netted to 0. So this best goalie duo in the league was exactly average in terms of 5v5 GSAA in March. |

You like to hear that from Jake but honestly how much muscle can he put on that frame and not lose a step? He's not exactly fast now. |

Yeah, I guess there was a false sense of security.

He f'n chewed. One of the biggest goalie blunders in NHL OT history aside , he let in the 1st and 2nd goal of an elimination game on the 1st and 3rd shot, both savable and with the Pens up 3-2 let in 3 goals in 3 mins including 2 in 11 seconds. Oh yeah, and in game one 3 of the 4 he let in were soft AF and the Pens scored 3 in that one. - MattStrat
I disagree with the second goal - I don't think he had a chance on that one. It was a result of poor play in front of the net. Every other goal in that game he should have stopped, though.
Jarry aside, one thing I noticed for much of that series is that the Isles' forwards, who are not known for a high power offense, often cut through our defense like it wasn't even there. On the other hand, it was rare for the Pens to be able get anyone near to Sorokin. Jarry is still the reason they lost that series but still, in games 2, 3, 4, and 6 the better team won (he cost them games 1 and 5 - he wins those two and the Pens win in 5). The Pens' defense is still soft and the offense lacks the physicality needed to break traps and play near the net. |

I don't know. Jake is listed at 5'11 180, which is bigger than I thought. You have to wonder how much muscle he can put on and maintain, and maintaining it can almost be harder. Adding weight can slow you down, but I think he'd have to put on significantly more weight to make that happen.
Doing it naturally, at the high end he could put on 8 to 10 pounds of PURE muscle given all the resources he has at his disposal, and I mean not muscle and fat, over three or four months. Realistically, if he puts in a good amount of work I'd expect 4 to 6 pounds, which I don't think would have a significant affect on his speed.
If I were him I'd worry less about upper body and try to get stronger on his lower body. He'll get more power that way and be harder to knock off the puck.

Lee looked good. I wish maniac played a filles season in the A instead of riding the taxi squad most of it. |

He needs to do a few leg days with Sid

From pens inside scoop-
I asked Jake what he's going to focus on this offseason: "Physically get stronger. I'm excited to get in the weight room. It’s going to be a good summer just because this left a sour taste in my mouth, and I know I got to be a lot better." - wsldck
Kid needs steroids otherwise what else will he accomplish in 4 months of weight training. |

That would be ideal. Sid is genetically built the way he is and that's a big advantage, but Jake could definitely follow his regimen.

With a strict diet and workout regiment he could put on four to six pounds, but he has worldclass EVERYTHING at his disposal, so if he really went all out I think he could put on 8-10 pounds, but that would be if he made this his whole life for the off-season. |

Yeah Jarry sucks but it’s also no coincidence that every goalie that goes to nyi turns into a Vézina nominee. Including career backups. That’s trotz system and his coaching. No matter who Pitt gets or what goalie is in place they will not score goals against the isles in the playoffs and you have to address that as well as just ‘Jarry (frank)ed us’. Yeah jarry sucked but playoff hockey is different. There’s clutching and grabbing and poop gets rough. Maybe Jake and Sid need a kassian type to run amok in front of the net to give them space. Kassian sucks so hopefully there is someone better but Pitt needs to adjust their strategy, the style of personnel they employ, or something different or they will keep losing to teams like the islanders. It’s not all on Jarry, he’s just a large part of the problem. |

I'm just saying that's what's realistic on the high-end if done naturally. Putting on four to six pounds of lean muscle is considered a lot over the course of a few months.
Ten pounds may not seem like a lot, but if a bulk of it was on the lower body, it could have a significant impact on his power.

Well, it's easier to bulk on the lower body than upper, but I agree with you. I said it would be extreme and he'd have to live the lifestyle every single day of the off-season.

Based on his genetics and assuming he’s worked out for his entire adult life he could probably naturally put on 8-10 pounds of muscle total in a year. That’s in the context of body building so it may be even more difficult in terms of functional strength for sport.
Either way it won’t change the way he plays. |

Like I said, four to six is considered a lot over the course of a few months. For most people who work full time jobs, the idea of putting on eight to ten pounds in less than a year is very difficult. When you can devote 24/7 to that life and workout regimen with the best trainers, nutritionists and facilities around? It's still VERY hard, but it's more possible to do over half of a year. |

You aren’t doing it in 4 months without gear. He could easily do it if he mixes in trenboloney sandwiches to his diet. |
