Both have 4pts in 5 games.
Not bad for sure.
But not great considering their pay. Matthews was invisible last night. 1 goal in 5 games from the NHL's leading scorer is not good. Its time to take over game. We know he can, we've seen it. Now its time to do it on consistent basis in the playoffs when it matters.
Willie has stepped up so far. M&M need to manhandle these habs.
Onto game 6.
Time to get Foligno back in the line up

- Fakepartofme

When the opposing team is able to shut down your top players it is because they have been able to narrowly focus on making that happen, not unlike how the Jets shut down McDavid and Draisaitl. When this happens your other players need to step up and fill in the gap. Nylander has certainly been doing his share. However, the loss of Tavares is significant to the team as a whole but, especially significant to Matthews and Marner. So, remain calm, the Leafs simply have too much firepower and they will win the series soon enough.

When you are supposed to be covering for your defenseman who pinched.

That puck needs to be dumped in to give Bogo a chance to get back in position.

Ah well. Off to game 6.

- Leafs43

Absolutely correct. That was the worst giveaway ive ever seen in a playoff OT.

Awful take

Mikheyev is defensively reliable and his speed is a game changer
Mikheyev >>> Thornton

- mr.sir

Maybe and he should be but it would be another coin toss.

The guy has the hockey awareness of a toddler it seems a lot of nights this year.

Send Mikey packing, talk about a guy who can’t shoot or pass. Its a coin toss between Simmonds and him who’d I’d sit or bump down.

Matthews has been good, puck is just not going in...yet.

here is his stats in the 5 games (Marner is pretty much the same) at 5v5

CF% 88-75 54%
Shots 61-41 59%
goals 3-0
xgf 4.73-2.78 63%
HDCF 21-10 67%

Willy is getting a lot less ice, it seemed odd..since he is always creating when he is out.

Willys numbers are not as good overall (except the goals/points)

CF% 51
shots 35-38
goals 5-5
HDCF 46%

that probably why
HD goals 2-4

- Fakepartofme

Agreed. Right now Foligno looks like one of the worst trade deadline acquisitions considering the large overpayment for him. It also appears like he had this injury before he came over.

I have a feeling he will sit out again next game, and only come back if game 7 is needed.

I do like his speed, even though it hasn’t been noticed much either in this series.

I watched the play unfold, I have watched the replay multiple times. I tell myself there has to be an explanation. It has to be more than a brain cramp or a lack of attention. Something triggered the bonehead lapse?

Keep Simmonds in the lineup but he’s not there just to be another guy skating around. He needs to help get a physical response going. It’s one of the few times he hasn’t done that.

I’m meh about Mik. His speed is useful in moving the puck up the ice. He’s good on the the PK, but we have lots of guys for that. There’s no one I’m burning to replace him with.

Pfft not even my in my top 5.
Defensively, he's good as I said. His speed isnt a game changer cause he does sweet fack all with the puck.
His speed has never "changed" a game.
What do you expect for 1.6m I guess.

There is no good explanation really, its OT, you are covering for Bogosian, get it deep.

Galchy out Foligno in?

I liked Galchy's game until yesterday but that poop is unforgiveable.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone took a poop in his stall yesterday.

Am I wrong? Im willing to listen to reason.

He's barely played even down the stretch in the regular season. I like him as a player, and if he actually plays he's a good pickup, but considering the cost and what he has provided thus fair, I think its a fair argument.
