I/Bloated weren't referring to speed or how many hits they had - just actually size.
But surprisingly no, Colorado didn't have as many hits as Vancouver as a team or D wise, individually, Edler threw more than Graves. - Brooks_Light
I agree they have a similarly sized D corp, they just use that size a bit more IMO.
If you've watched them play in the playoffs, they definitely don't shy away from throwing hits like the Canucks tend to do (though I know regular vs post season is different).
And comparing just hits isn't always the best, as it takes out context. Edler might have had to throw more hits as he doesn't have the puck as much and spends more time defending in his own zone.
I'm not saying Colorado's D are big hitters, just from what I've seen they don't wilt as much as the Canucks D do. But maybe that just refers back to the general team identity? |

Colorado defense had very little opportunity to make hits, they were always in the offensive zone. |

Samuel Girard had as many hits as Hughes and Schmidt combined. |

I think Rathbone is going to be our quote midget defenseman. Hopefully the other midget defenseman fetches the Canucks a nice return. - Reubenkincade
If we could pry Cernak outta Tbay, sign Oleksiak, maybe resign Hamonic. That changes the look on D in a positive way.
Oleksiak Cernak
Hughes, Myers
Rathbone Hamonic
??Schmidt, Juolevi??
That spreads out the size, speed, midget-ness |

People are forgetting that Benning himself was a NHL dman. I’ll trust his view on how to build a defense over anyone’s on this site. - Nucker101
Agree. Too bad Gretzky signed that TNT deal, could have had him as a scoring coach. I wonder if the could convince 6 time Cup winner Kevin Lowe to come on board to help build out a great team. |

It's not as old fashioned as you think. Even Tampa, who seems to be a gold standard for small players, has a bigger D corps. I'm with you. I want some size on the back end. - Load Management

Gretzky doesn’t seem too passionate about taking on stressful roles as a coach/exec
Lowe rode the coattails of greater players, that’s why he got exposed as a GM |

Hughes and Myers would be a disaster over the course of a season. Would rather offload Myers to Seattle.

he's busy. another couple years to see his vision through.
this is why i loved the JB should be the pres. opinions from a summer or two ago. we're following the oilers model.

Hm that is true. I guess former players follow in their footsteps that they were as players. JB spent 10 years in the league and played a total of 7 playoffs games. Really feels like the Canucks are following in his footsteps. |

I wasnt defending Vancouver - I was just pointing out some stats.
For the record - I want Vans D to change, starting with Baummer and the system. I'd like to bring in a defence coach who has actually WON at some level.
On the fence for bringing back Hamonic (based on $/term), Don't want Edler back, hope Schmidt goes to Seattle, wouldnt mind Juolevi leaving
Want to keep Myers, Rathbone and Hughes and find partners that allow those three to play to their strengths

I agree with you, other than Myers and Schmidt. Schimdt is the better player, allow him to play to his strengths. Myers to SEA
I think keeping OJ is good. He's cost controlled and still has room to improve. For a number 7 that's fine. |

As you mentioned earlier about others, he just rode the coattails of better people. Like his defensive pedigree, he's getting exposed =( |
