Good grief, hey let’s complain to just complain, this is actually pathetic.

Complain about no media clips, where is JB, hiding from the media.

Benning makes available himself to media, oh oh JB hiding behind his daughter.

Team signs coach, working on signing others, inks Podkolzin to contract, oh, oh club is pathetic for announcing Anything positive.

Reubenkincade is spot fucking on, this fan base gets what it deserves, (frank)ing pathetic and middle school antics.

Hockey isn’t baseball. There are far too many variables. Stats are “interesting” but that’s it. Perhaps in 10 years they will be more
Reliable in hockey. +\- is more reliable than corsi and we all know how worthless that stat is

- CanuckDon

Some teams probably use analytical tools that are way more complex and useful than corsi. I don’t think corsi is even used much these days in mainstream analytics

I mean if they’re truly doing a job it should be reflected in how many shots Matthews is getting from the slot/crease and one timers compared to usual amount. If that’s not the case then it’s probably Price who deserves a lot of credit.

I haven’t looked but I assume it’s a combination of both strategy and Price

- Nucker101

I meant more of it being a poor reflection on Matthews fancy stats but it's a defensive focus on 1 player.

Most NHL teams don't value analytics, like the analytics crowd does.
They hire some guys from the analytic community to shut the annoying arrogant and entitled shits up.

Yet 5 years ago we were told Corsi and Fenwick were much more important than the eye test.

I bet analytics played a part in identifying those players to go after.

Once all the microchips are active I’m sure we’ll get much better stats.

I've never looked at analytics, but i've been a fan of Nino since WHL.
I thought he'd be a good 'buy low' option when he fell out of favour in Minny.

Yeah, then they flipped when they changed teams. Keep making those points for me.

I think analytics have their place in the conversation. It’s not the end all and be all, just like a pure eye test isn’t the end all and be all. It just gives more information and context when making decisions. Not sure how it’s that bad to use all the tools available.

Looks like Nighthawk is needed in the Leafs thread. They’re throwing out rosters left, right and center. I’m sure his experience wouldn’t go unnoticed.

I thought of him being a buy low option as well but his contract has always been much more than his play. He is pretty much Tanner Pearson.

For sure plus the best teams likely know how to balance between eye test and analytics. I think going 100% on either is not the best strategy.

I’m sure you’re right, probably depends on who the GM/President is. My guess is most of them just use it as another evaluation tool, but how much they value it probably varies

I mean if a team truly wants to shut down one specific player, it can be done in the playoffs. I don’t think it reflects poorly on that player if they’re getting that much defensive attention. His linemates should probably be benefiting from it

I can remember when the eye test was called watching the game. Ya know, back when understanding the game didn't require a mathematical equation to validate knowledge.
