It's insane how much people put into analytics. I'd say that's because they can't tell talent when they see it.

I can remember when the eye test was called watching the game. Ya know, back when understanding the game didn't require a mathematical equation to validate knowledge.

I think analytics have their place in the conversation. It’s not the end all and be all, just like a pure eye test isn’t the end all and be all. It just gives more information and context when making decisions. Not sure how it’s that bad to use all the tools available.

I am sure analytics of some sort, like +/- have been used for decades. Analytics aren't a new concept, just over used and over talked about because of the mom's basement crowd.

Anyways, Minivan posted a stat the other day, Chris Tanev is the best defenseman in the league, followed by, Adam Larson of Oilers.
I like both those defensemen, but they are not the best defensemen in the league.
Analytics are far to subjective, they are not facts.

This Point midget guy is not too bad. I know they can’t win a cup with him but still, oh wait...

I can remember a time before computers and cell phones and the internet when players smoked and drank beer between and during the game. Things change. No one is saying you need math to understand the game, but perhaps math can add different insights that people can’t intuit purely from watching.

The only reason they have a cup is because they haven’t faced the Canucks in the final.

They were posted about "war". I don't know exactly how "war" is calculated in terms of hockey but if it's anything like baseball, it's not that hard to figure out how those two managed to top the list.

If you look at it without any context, you should probably just stick to something you understand, watching the puck go back and forth and cheering "shoot"

No one is saying, you need to understand the game to make the mathematical equation either.

Might be a big part of the problem with analytics

Math simply explains something that is already there and is much older than Hockey. Times may change, but Mathematicians have been selling their snake oil for thousands of years. So I suggest your line of thinking is way more antiquated than mine.

Don't know why you would limit yourself to one type of thinking pr another, definitely seems antiquated to do so.

What the (frank) does this even mean?

Do you know anything about Mason Primeau? He is currently a Vegas unsigned selection, eligible to be back in the draft this year.

NOpe, never heard of him - any good?

Have you seen any USDT games this year? I was wondering about two Dmen, Hreschuk and Behrens? Possible 2nd rounders?
