Hopefully Edler is gone and we can round out the second pairing with Myers.

Interesting depth prospect. Club likes Plasek’s speed, hockey IQ.

Considering the Czech league is probably better than the AHL in terms of quality. (slightly)
I'm surprised at this. It is what I want though to get players over a bit earlier to have them in the system and learning the game over here.
Dmitri Zlodeyev should be someone they bring over also if he isn't under contract. |

Well I hope he goes into hotel quarantine when he arrives, then the full 14 days by himself.
Saw the league is working on exception for teams traveling back and forth over the border for the 3 rd round of the playoffs. Can’t see Manitoba allowing this. |

I think the NHL has been doing a good job with the Covid-19 protocols. Who knows maybe all players are/will be fully vaccinated soon? I can see it going through.

He would be doing that in BC not MB in August. I couldn't tell you what the rules will be in August in BC.
MB current lockdown will be reviewed in a week I believe. Can't say where it will go from there.
MB has started 2nd doses. |

#Canucks I've watched him closely since we drafted him. He hasn't put up as much offence in the Czech Extraliga as I'd hoped but there have been flashes of skill, speed and IQ that made me think there is a potential future NHL player waiting to burst out. |

May 31: Podkolzin told Sport24 in Russia that he is willing to play in the AHL if that’s what the Canucks management wants him to do and is not considering a return to Russia or using a European Assignment Clause. That’s good news for Vancouver, who can bring the teenaged forward along slowly if he’s not quite ready to make an impact at the start of the season. |

I'm cautiously optimistic. It's been difficult for everyone. Not sure if everything will ever be the same though.

Already makes him a better player than Tryamkin.
Hopefully he also likes weed and coke. |

From the Athletic on his contract:
The contract is a three-year entry-level pact that comes in at a $925,000 face value cap hit, with full Schedule A bonuses totalling $850,000. His full cap hit will be pegged at $1.775 million in each of the three years.
It’s interesting that Podkolzin’s entry-level contract includes the max face value cap hit and full Schedule A bonuses. That valuation pegs Podkolzin’s deal at a modestly higher range than a typical entry-level contract for 10th picks, based on the ELCs signed by the likes of Owen Tippett and Evan Bouchard.
Podkolzin’s entry-level valuation, however, reflects his situation. He’s a player who developed within the SKA Saint Petersburg system, which is a deep-pocketed organization in the KHL, giving him additional options and leverage. His entry-level deal is a perfect match, for example, with Florida Panthers 2018 first-round pick Grigori Denisenko, who came through the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl system.
It’s also worth noting that Podkolzin’s deal doesn’t include a European out clause. Unlike previous European-based Canucks prospects with options, including players like Nikita Tryamkin and Elias Pettersson, Podkolzin will be able to be assigned to the AHL. |

What Drance wrote on the Athletic about him:
Karel Plasek and the Canucks are nearing an agreement on an entry-level contract, multiple sources confirmed to The Athletic on Sunday. The deal could be announced as soon as Monday.
The deal will be a three-year entry-level contract, and will not carry a European Out Clause. The intention of the contract is to get Plasek into the system to begin his North American professional career next season with Vancouver’s relocated AHL franchise in Abbotsford.
Historically speaking, Plasek will be the first signing in club history completed with an eye toward playing games for Abbotsford’s new AHL team.
In terms of an overall skill set, Plasek — who has spent parts of the past four years playing in the top Czech men’s league — has plus wheels and solid hockey IQ. There’s still a lot of work to do for Plasek in developing both physically and as a professional calibre player.
In all likelihood, if he hits, he’ll be a third-line forward and it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be able to put himself on the map to contribute for the NHL club next season.
It’s the hockey IQ in particular, that the club is enamoured with. The Canucks see Plasek as capable of filling a depth role on the club in the future and contributing in all situations if he can continue to mature as a player and develop physically, which is why the club was eager to get him into the system so promptly.
With Plasek poised to join Podkolzin as an entry-level signing this week, the club will have locked up five players from their 2019 draft class, with seventh-round picks Arvid Costmar and Aidan McDonough certain to warrant contract offers in the coming years. That 2019 draft class is shaping up to be, perhaps, a significant one in Canucks history. |

The defense won't be much better than it was this season.
Hopefully this draft will fill some holes down the road.
I am optimistic for a good season in 2023-24. |

You can't really have the two softest lefties on your top line.
Nor what would Green do with 4 lefties. I'm pretty sure CHL teams would laugh at that defence. - manvanfan
