Just heard a funny story. Apparently as a child, Gordie Howe was a collected of hockey cards. The company who produced the cards (I forget who it was back then) regularly ran out of specific cards and when they received letters from kids ordering cards they would mail out Turk Broda cards (Leafs goalie). Howe had dozens of Broda cards in his collection. Fast forward to his NHL debut, and who do you think he scores his first NHL goal against? Yup, Broda!

He looks mean/ he will NOT be popular in the room

Hopefully Petey's wrist is fully healed. I can see another locker room power struggle looming.

Just saying, if he goes into an NHL fight swinging like he did in those videos he’ll get his clock cleaned.

Are people really pegging podkolzin as the new enforcer?

If Benning could dump Schmidt and somehow end up with Jones, that would be fantastic.
Jones with Rathbone could be an excellent top pairing in a season or so.
It would also free them up to dump Queenie, for a defenseman that defends and could pair with Myers.

- Reubenkincade

Jones is a legit #1 Dman, possible Norris winner and a RHD which we have an immense need for.

I personally don't care if it's Schmidt or Myers, we need to lose the dollar amount of a 2nd pairing guy either in the deal or in a separate one or to Seattle.

While I agree with you that QH isn't the world beater he's made up to be, he's not a dump either. Pairing him with Jones would be ideal.

Definitely changed my opinion a bit after the article. Would still love him on the team, just wouldn’t trade for him. Think he’ll end up getting overpaid.

I had said two years ago that I thought Werenski was a better overall defensemen than Jones.

They could have been the best pairing in the league if they had some forwards to play with.

Some D just do so much out there, I think that creates the illusion of what they are doing is effective. I think a lot of people fall for it.

Jone is a very good defender but he's not generational, he's not elite, just above avg good.

I read the article, it's always great when we look at a player through numbers only. I've watched him play a ton, he's better than anything on our time by a wide margin.

I'd be interested in seeing analytics on some of the all-time great Dmen. Probably half of them would have less than flattering numbers.

It is funny how Minivan picks and chooses when analytics should apply and when they apply.

I just pulled Chris Pronger's numbers from his cup run with Philly and they are not flattering. I'd say not even above average good.

It's a shame the Flyers had to carry him to the finals, they probably would have won without him.

So a few years ago when I said he wasn't as good as the hype he was getting, now all of a sudden I get analytics to back up what I was saying and I'm cheering picking?

I'm guessing it's because you were the one saying how great he was.

It's insane how much people put into analytics. I'd say that's because they can't tell talent when they see it.
