Maybe that's it. I am just very displeased with Marner and Rielly so far. I know we have high expectations, but they need to settle and smarten up and just make good plays.
- Monkeypunk

Rielly is his own end and carrying through the neutral zone? I think he's been really good. Rielly's hesitation at the point 5v5 and particularly on the PP makes me crazy.

Well despite the style being better suited for Montreal.

It's the right way to play such an important game.

Toronto has the players to score that one important goal when a good chance will show up.

I'll counter your reverse psychology with the Habs have the veteran tender to stop all the low risk shots in a low risk type game.

Wait, I know! They should curl back and wait for the trailer... then telegraph a wrister into somebody's shins.

Would be very typical.

Would be better if he slid it over to Brodie, better chance the puck ends up on net and isn't going the other way.

As of now it doesn't matter if that line wins offensive zone faceoffs, Riellys just gonna skate it into the corner, throw it into the crowd out front and it'll be going the other way like the last 100 times he's done it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Disagree. You play the style of hockey that dominated during the regular season.

You don’t try to play a conservative style when that hasn’t been your thing up to this point - especially in a deciding game.

Having said that, if by “conservative” you mean throw the puck up the boards in OT, I’m with you!

I watched the Avs last night and focused on their PP. In theory you'd compare a Matthews-Marner-Nylander-Rielly-Thornton with ..
McKinnon-Rantonen-Landoskog-Makar-someotherguy

They set up very similar to the Leafs and enter the zone very similar to the Leafs. Landy and the other guy set up much like Nylander and Thornton in the slot and bumper. Rantanen sets up just like Matthews. The biggest difference I saw was Makar and McKinnon move the puck fast and skate into the Box and make the defenders move ....Rielly and Marner handle, look at AM, pass, handle, look at AM, pass, skate slowly around the outside, pass. It was night and day. The inability of either of those guys (and Thornton) to be a shooting threat is a PP killer.

the avs look 2x faster on the pp. quick passes and no hesitation to rifle it when there's an open lane

Totally. Mckinnon get the puck skates hard into the box ...threatens shot ...dishes it off to Makar ...rinse repeat until the box is out of shape and somebody gets a good look. The speed of their movement was what jumped out at me.

Yup, had a glimpse of that with Sandin in Game 3 (I think). Move it fast. Our PP is so labouring and telegraphed, it's too easy to collapse in front.
