Cute like you, Clay.

The look on your face when the Habs bus drives into your back porch, what you've had 3 straight game nights of treatment, right ? It was 3 in a row, right.

Seems like there could be a fit with the Jackets. A Jones or Werenski maybe. I could see the Jackets wanting someone who is under contract for a while with how everything has played out over the last few years. Not saying it's at all happening but there are options, just depends how the Leafs assess their season. But unless it's a deal that significantly makes the team better I still think there's a good argument for keeping him and being patient.
- 13sundin13

Well Jones is supposedly available and he’s be a perfect fit for you. Do you go 1-for-1 in a contract year though?

just a quick observation… Leafs spent draft capital they don’t have … a 1st on Foligno & signed Wayne train, when all they had to do is keep Martin around for that presence … to me that was a poor decision, he’s done well with Isles.

The Kadri trade while necessary didn’t really bring about the desired results - trades are like that though…

Jumbo was a desperate move from the start … and didn’t work at all.

Some pretty frank conversations gonna be needed this summer…

Oh and only 3 picks…

- dozerD10

Would have loved to have kept Martin, the Leafs would have as well, but his cap hit was a bit high at the time and the big three were coming up for renewal so the Leafs needed the cap space.

I ultimately couldn't give a (frank) who's head rolls because that's where I'm at, but canning Dubas and Keefe just seems like steps backwards. Shanahan? Who cares. Assistant coaches... Done that.

To me the only move is to hit the core of this team with a rocket strike. That's the only play.

It's Marner and Rielly that are the easy outs. Retool around the big centres, figure the goalie thing out, rebuild the back end around Muzzin and Brodie.

Still plenty of shots left to shoot but you can't go backwards to do it and tinkering by adding complimentary pieces clearly doesn't do it either. Gotta shake the core to shake the stigma, the rest will get it.

It is a good question. How many contenders have room for an 11m cap hit? What am I saying. Vegas would probably figure it out?
- leafsfann

Why do you have to trade him to a contender? Do you think there isn't a single non playoff teams that believe they can use him as part of their core? I trade him to which ever team gives the best offer, and I could care less if he ever sees the playoffs for the rest of his career.

Honest question, what if I were to tell you the leafs just set the Habs back by years. Bergy now thinks because they slayed the giant, he's on the right track buying into the aging core. Frivolous free agent contracts and trading of youth on the docket. What weight would that theory hold... 🤔

I have no idea to be honest, just seems like there could be a fit there. As frustrated as I am with Marner right now I still think patience is probably the best option, he's a top 10 scorer in the league, still young-ish and plays well with Matthews. At this point they've fully committed to this core, might as well see how it all plays out for better or worse.

I don't know how much of an appetite there would be from non playoff teams to take on that kind of salary, especially one that's front loaded bonuses. Especially in the current economic climate.

Crazy Leaf fans. I know this was a tough series loss but don't over-react here. Toronto is very talented and still very young team. All they need, like I told Islanders fans a few years ago when they lost JT but still were a good team, is the "right" coach for this team. Unfortunately Barry Trotz is not available at this time but maybe there are some others who are much better getting the "optimal" performance out of their players. I not saying who but maybe Gerard Gallant or even John Tortorella (don't laugh). I guarantee you if Torts was your coach Marner and Matthews would play much better or they would sit! You play hard or you don't play at all and maybe this overly gifted offensive team needs some of that tough love from their coach. Remember it could be worse, you could be a Devil fan

I thought Matthews was dangerous all series.

Price has stopped him many times with great saves and Danault got better at covering him as the series went on.

Seriously, Phil gets too little credit for how good he is at stopping top players from scoring. He deserves these considerations for the Selke despite his offense not being as good as others.

Marner on the other hand.... he wasn't even someone I was worried about. There was no way this guy was scoring on Price.

Next year, it's probably problems we'll need to address.

Right now? This team's story is not over yet. I'll enjoy the ride.

after the game Keefe said that after game 5 the guys were goofing around with Joe and wanted to find out why they called him ‘Jumbo’....anyways, I guess Auston took all of Joe, and it really messed up his prostate. He’ll
be ok but yeah he was playing a little hurt.

With Marner it’s been 3 years in a row he’s been poop. 0 goals - 10 assists in his last 18 games.

Matthews has 8 goals - 9 assists in those same games.

Matthews needed to do more this series, but Marner is by far the biggest problem.
