Benning:
“I would say there’s nine guys we really liked in this year’s draft, and we’re excited to draft any of them,” Benning told The Athletic on Wednesday. “Maybe after that it’s not quite so clear, but there’s nine guys we really like and we know we’re going to get one of those nine guys.”
“We’ll keep all of our options open as we’re talking to teams, trying to make the team better,” Benning said when asked directly by The Athletic on Wednesday about the potential for trading the ninth pick. “I can’t answer that now. It would have to be a really good player to move the pick.”
Maybe hold off on putting your picks in on who they choose at 9? lol - NewYorkNuck

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and say you won't be able to count on Miller scoring at the rate he did last year for future seasons. Great player, but if we traded him for a top 10 pick people would be stoked. - NorthNuck
A top 10 is a few years away from maybe impacting. Better to keep in what you know you have or it delays real growth. The hole created in the top 6 is a gamble not worth taking. Best course is stay the course & draft/develop future prospects. The best teams don’t shuffle the deck til they’ve the pieces. We are from being deep enough to do that & would only stretch out the rebuild like the Oilers & Sabres of the world. By that I mean waste the years of good players already here.
The problem is dead cap & depth. At this time the bottom 6 is the biggest & easiest task to fix. The D is a painful slow process. It requires patience unless a top 4 RHD can be snagged in a trade. Leaves us to hoping the D matures & defensively improves big time. Offensively on D we look good. |

I mean the fact he’s identified 9 top prospects in this draft and had the 9th overall pick really puts him in great position. He has a ton of leverage on any team that wants his pick.
He’s going to either walk away with a future core player or add a core player to this roster, maybe even do both. - Nucker101

Yeah I wasn't advocating trading Miller, rather making the point that the trade would be seen as good value. Obviously his production to cap hit ratio is great. |

Sam Reinhart for 9oa? - manvanfan
Be dreamy but not enough lol
I’ve toyed with ideas to load up the top 6 & it would push good players down to the 3rd line. Fixes depth but still needs a 3C to work.
Find it pricey being the assets given up we cannot afford yet.
Waiting til 2022 for a big UFA like is more likely better timing.
We need the top 2 lines to go to another level next season. JB tweaking the bottom 6 supports them much better & helps us compete much better & consistently.
The D will be where team success will sink or swim. |

The more I read & research the more uncertain I become on who we should pick.
Ideally Clarke stands out for talent & need. Doubt he is left for us.
Moving onto a C it gives us more options to pick from. None will be ready for 2-3yrs imo.
Going solely on BPA relies on who falls to us & most likely to occur given JB has a list of 9.
My trade down option doesn’t fit this draft unless the e-draft factors in somehow.
Overall other roster decisions are in the forefront. The need for some special maneuvering there is more important. Trades or buyouts MUST be where JB claims he’ll be aggressive.
The UFA season being after the e-draft then the draft make it the toughest challenge to come for JB to get it right. He’ll certainly be shopping but to what degree will be predicated on all the earlier moves & drafts.
The 1st domino to fall will be the key that’ll get it back on the rails. It ain’t broke but it’s far from being close to what we all expect.
JB you’re on the clock... - Nighthawk
I think that McTavish kid could slip into a 4th line role in his d+1 if Covid is still doing a number on the OHL being able to play next season. Idealy he slots into a 4th or 3rd line role in d+2. Guenther looks to be the same. |

He also has some NHL readiness in him as well from tape I have seen. If we did the new style of top9 playing 50+ a game and 4th line playing 10- a game, he could develope quite well tha4 way and maybe play his way onto the 3rd line. |

The player that was picked with the Miller pick is trash. He wouldn’t help jack sh!t - CanuckDon
That pick was in the 20s. Again, it originally started from trading the 9th for a Miller. That 9th pick is much more aligned to the team's window than a Miller is. |

The Chaz is the way to go unless a dman slips. We fixed Bo's skating and no one is calling him a 3C ceiling anymore.

Role playing? Lol
I’m JB posters are TG. Here’s the pieces I give to you for the bottom 6.
Wennberg or Granlund
(Hoglander see below)
Motte
Highmore
Lockwood
Lind
Gadjovich
Graovac
Top 6 for purposes of high expectations is already allocated.
FYI I use a duos & 3rd wheel strat.
Miller EP Podkolzin
Pearson Bo Boeser
Hoglander odd man out being Pearson re-upped & is stuck to Bo. Hog would upgrade the 3rd line a ton & leave the 4th line less TOI. If you like Pearson dropping for Hog that’s fine. |

Ovechkin was the only 50+ point forward ahead of him in hits last season.
Only five 40+ point forwards had more hits than him this season
He’s a first line powerforward - Nucker101

This. Just need to get the bottom 6 and the defense improved and this team will be contending in 2022/2023.

A fun looking 3rd line. The potential could be good. Lind had a taste so if he’s able to up it to the next level it could be a hoot.
Lockwood impressed me & could be an energy digger we sorely lack enough of. |
