aka the lower mainland special
- Nucker101

Don’s probably never been in a basement suite, and they’re not unique to the mainland. Plenty of illegal suites on the island with 6’6” ceilings, with low hanging beems than you smash your drunk head on regularly (as a youth)

Yes. Waste of a high pick
- CanuckDon

Not Tanev type low offence but a reasonable 30 point D that is good at D. Just as good as a 50 point D who sucks at D.

Cant say I know brassmasters. Will has great videos and made great strides but i feel like he doesn't see what translates and what doesn't a lot of the time.

RHD always plucked higher than they probably should. Last couple years where I project my fav d to go, seem to end up 15 spots higher than I would have liked them. So if he ended up as a 3rd rounder, probably bet he goes mid 2nd.

- manvanfan

Scarce commodity 👍

Still gotta draft them if gonna find a gem or top 4 at least. I like Woo but need much more. Most teams do.

True, just saying that a lot of neighbourhoods these days have streets packed on both sides full of cheap cars owned by the basement tenants.

Just the reality of the financial climate here, upstairs can't afford the mortgage without tenants, downstairs can't afford a house/nice apartment.

I think if they were picking 13th, he'd either hope his guy falls, and if not then trade back to trade the pick for another J.T. Miller type of player.

As for your 2nd point, he's clearly on another level when it comes to operating at the draft table compared to guys like Treliving

- Nucker101

I agree with you there, for sure. Treliving keeps drafting fast , talented, little, pillow fighters. He knows nothing about building a balanced team. I’m sure he was pissed when Benning identified OJ for the 5oa pick and left that pos Tkachuk.
You guys don’t know how good you got it having a GM like him in charge.

Or maybe he has 9 certain players in mind.

Meanwhile your Boston Pizza trust fund baby will be scrambling at the draft table as usual

I dont see him as risky per se. just bland. Not
Offensive. I wouldn’t draft a D this high in the draft that won’t produce. If he wasn’t 6’4 where would he be drafted?

- CanuckDon

I try to not to drool about D being they are risks in the 1st round. Not saying I like the safe pick (so boring). So not seeing Clarke getting to us it’s a F by default.

OJ was the right pick before injuries derailed his development. He was a fantastic skater before the injuries and is now a subpar skater.

No need to panic, this is where Benning shines. He almost always gets it right. Missed on JV, and that was before Benning could really establish his own scouting preferences as he was just hired. Other miss was OJ who unpredictably suffered through multiple serious injuries that ruined his skating which went from a plus to a negative trait. The rest have all been excellent picks.

What if he's a Carlo type? Perfect for Hughes.
- Nucker101

We need defensive D have the offence in place already. Prospects but all LHD other than Woo. So once again a UFA RHD is the hunt. Resign Hamonic for depth say 2/1.75m. Leaves it at 1 more for balance & complimenting Hughes Bones & OJ.

Woo might once he hits the NHL. Focusing on the defensive side a lot this year probably.
- manvanfan

I’d like him to be our Cernak 👍

He just might out of pity.

Knowing Treliving, he'll probably try to sneak a peak at Jim's list anyway since he seems incredibly fond of any Canuck player that becomes available

It’s really unfortunate that he tubbed his camel toe, I’ve noticed he has a hard time turning to skate backward. Must have really hurt it.

Yup. All said it’s hard not to imagine a strange top 8 or the order picked. Sitting good at 9oa.

Cernak could mentor him as well, it's good to have a dman on the team to watch in practice everyday like how Chara mentored the Bruins defensive dmen

Exactly. More likely that he gets to draft a guy who's higher than #9 on his list

JV an unmitigated bust. Smells of FA.

OJ was a reach that most ppl didn’t like. Tkachuk fell like players always do. Picking JV has a domino effect imo & what made Tkachuk less obvious. Imo need was getting filled at a poor time. I had better D in mind back then.

That I wouldn’t doubt at all. That explains Tanev’s compliment about QH, he’s just buttering him up for some names.

Is Edvinson going to be a stalwart defensively? Not from what I’ve seen or read

Sending a message. Next time, stop short, grab him by the hair and smash his head into the ice, that’s the way you do it.
