Yup, a total disgrace.
It should be interesting to see how they can f*ck it up even further, this summer. - Marwood

I’ll never forgive Nucker for getting my hopes up. He just gushed all over the thread when that trade went down.

The principle was right, it just didn't work out for either the organization or the player. Schmidt is one of the few subpar players with a 5+ million dollar cap hit that could bring a decent return. There's most likely a GM out there that believes in him and thinks their team is just a better fit. |

Toronto is in for a world of pain too this coming season. They will be paying their 2nd line centre $11M (and his name is not Malkin). Their d-core is a mess and their bottom six will all need to be replaced. Plus, they have very little picks this coming draft. Not looking great in Hogtown. - bloatedmosquito
Honestly, their team isn't bad at all. They need a culture change though, and to ship off one of their core pieces. New coach to lay some defensive/hardnosed groundwork, someone like Barry Trotz would have been great with that team. If I were them, I'd seriously explore trading Marner for someone like Jones or Pesce or a solid second pair D man and free up some cap space to round out the team. |

Aggressive in free agency and trading. - Marwood
As long as they're aggressively trading out a bad contract or two I'm fine with that. Being aggressive in free agent signings never really works out |

Disagree. The guy is an average #4 defenseman making 6 million for 4 more seasons. The player has maybe had 3 decent seasons in the league, with 5 mediocre ones.
As far as I am concerned, it was worse than signing a free agent at 6 million, just because of the draft pick alone, never mind the fact that it didn't allow the team to re-sign the defenseman that made Hughes look spectacular in his 1st season.

Marner was their leading scorer this season. But also has a $10.9M cap hit (most of it signing bonus - only $750,000 in actual contract value), at four years left with a NMC for the last two years.
That’s a very hard contract to move. They will not get full value if they trade him. I say that won’t happen, not this coming season anyway. IMO they went for it this year and failed. That’s going to put them in a rough position for the next couple of years. |

They are in win now, but it won't be long before they are the 2012/2013 nucks, with an aging core, little cap space, bare cupboards.
That 1st for foligno was a terrible move. |

IMO the principle of trading a 3rd round pick for a dman who's put up 30+ points a year for three straight years, and was +52 during that timeframe, is sound. Contract aside. |

Hard to move, but not impossible. High scoring guy that could fit well into any team. The cap is an issue, but maybe not as much for a team like CBJ.
I think the value they get for him will be solid player/s coming back and cap flexibility.
They sort of screwed themselves with that Tavares signing, but he's not going anywhere so.... |

He's fine, much more worried about 4, 5, 6 not getting torched. Hughes needs a steady defensive guy, hopefully hamonic comes back. |

I think it's a good mix. Need defensive guys to play woth the skater/puck mover types. There's a reason he worked so well with Hughes |

Ya for sure. I think winning makes them all want to come back, as far as not negotiating yet i would'nt be too worried as an avs fan as Sakic is smart enough to keep them focused on winning. |

Tyler Myers who had similar stats, never cost a pick.
I got a kick how everyone was all giddy in here, with Nucker leading the pom-pom crew.
Even when I asked about the aav and the term and the age of Schmidt, I was told how great of a trade this was.
