I think it's a good mix. Need defensive guys to play woth the skater/puck mover types. There's a reason he worked so well with Hughes - neem55
Tanev makes any partner look good. He has made Noah Hanifin and Morgan Reilly look good, no easy task. |

Sakic has some work to do
Landeskog, Makar, Grubauer, Jost all need contracts. - Codes1087
I think I heard on TV that Landeskog is as good as gone. From the sounds of it it’s a forgone conclusion. |

He's fine, much more worried about 4, 5, 6 not getting torched. Hughes needs a steady defensive guy, hopefully hamonic comes back. - neem55

Tyler Myers who had similar stats, never cost a pick.
I got a kick how everyone was all giddy in here, with Nucker leading the pom-pom crew.
Even when I asked about the aav and the term and the age of Schmidt, I was told how great of a trade this was.

Again, without using hindsight, my specialty lol, the low cost of picking up an NHL player like this is sound. I liken it to picking up Ehrhoff for Patrick White and Daniel Rahmi or whatever their names were. That one worked out well. This one didn't.
I didn't know anything about Schmidt or Ehrhoff at the time, one almost won a Cup the other almost won the draft lottery |

Trading for Schmidt was a sound move, and generally liked by everyone. Anyone that said 3rd was an overpayment is blowing smoke.

Ya for sure. I think winning makes them all want to come back, as far as not negotiating yet i would'nt be too worried as an avs fan as Sakic is smart enough to keep them focused on winning. - neem55
Really? That is like saying Benning is really smart for keeping the boys focused on winning during last seasons 4 week period of decent hockey. He must have been a great motivator for Markstrom, Tanev and Toffoli. |

I am looking forward to this off-season when Benning helps out another cup contender, by taking on an expensive contract for an NHL player, that also helps the other team be cap compliant.

I am still trying to figure out how Tampa was able to be over the 10% of salary cap upper limit last summer. That is a masterful job of cap circumvention. - Reubenkincade

Troy Stecher plays hero in spectacular fashion in Riga, setting up a fun finish this weekend at the World Championship, which will include a good look at draft-eligible Owen Power.
Also, the Canucks' draft history at No. 9...

I still see Marchand violating the Sedins and Vigneault telling everyone to look the other way and the refs will take care of it.
Big mistake by the coach. - K-man25

It's hard to fathom someone thinking that just because you're compliant that you've spent well. The Canucks are one the the worst cap managed teams in the entire league, and now, they have few tradable, if any, players with poor cap hits that they can move to free up money.
The whole organization is a mess from ownership to management, which is why I refuse to support them any longer. - DraftandDestroy
Then I suggest you leave and stop posting in the Canucks blog, or there could be a lengthy ban under CoC rule #7 🤷♂️ |

Your being a bit dense, dipping into the bottle a bit deep? Contract negotiations are a distraction. |
