Puck pressure is wonderful hockey, gotta stop giving other teams time and space.
- Reubenkincade

I think it's why we can never counter with speed in transition and tend to get hemmed in. Everyone is standing still in the D zone. If you're pressuring the puck, and properly supporting the guy in pursuit, everyone's already moving for the breakout.

What? LiveAid? Famine Relief? Canadian Music Royalty coming together for a cause that in the end provided very little long term benefit? God, I miss the naivety of the 80's.

You would think that the North would be pummeled, but say the Habs get through, they could play a stifling tight checking game and rely on Price to shut the door.

Last year Canucks didn’t have the talent to go toe to toe with Vegas, but they did take them to 7 games with an outstanding goalie and collapsing system.

- Makita

I do agree about Price, he is very capable of stealing a series. It seems the deeper he goes the more of a zone he gets into.

And stop trying to pick fights.

Most of the better teams also have fast and or quick forwards, which is also a concern on the Canucks.
Having some tall, heavy and mobile defensemen also helps with containment and breakouts. Not saying every defenseman needs to be a big burly guy, bit you need a couple defensemen like that on the team.

Yes we do. Personally where I notice it the most is how these teams are puck hounds when they don't have it. It's all about hot pursuit and not giving an inch. They don't sit back in the D zone. The trap is there but it's very aggressive and well supported. Also not a lot of dump and chase unless a team is trying to eat the clock.

This... as I'm always amazed at how easily other teams enter our zone unimpeded. Zero neutral zone pressure.

Also missing is net-front presence in both offensive and defensive zones, a quick transition out of our zone with the puck, and a system of gaining the offensive zone minus the drop pass or dump and chase.

I guess that's what makes them "fun to play against".

Listening to an ESPN podcast and the guys are praying to baby short haired Jesus that somehow Montreal doesn’t win the cup by going 5 guys across the blue line and shutting down all offense.

I thought that there was a re-seed after this round but apparently it’s winner of the North vs Col/Vegas. I don’t think it will be close either way.

I think the outcome of the re-seed was determined once Toronto was eliminated. If I am not mistaken, Colorado and Vegas were rated 1 and 2 and Mtl wpg as 7-8.

I think a lot of it is the lack of trust TG has in the players. In my opinion, TG doesn't operate more of a pressure game because he doesn't trust the players to know when to pressure and when not to and also who/where to cover. So, he employs very basic systems on both sides of the ice.

But this only magnifies the deficiencies.

Yet his “basic system” results in the same outcome; loses. One could take from your comment above that TG and JB are not on the same page when evaluating the talent they have. JB thinks we are two years away from being truly competitive and TG doesn’t trust the players he’s been given.

Good grief. And Makita wonders why some of us female dog and moan all the time.

I think the Canucks should target Colin Miller from Buffalo,he put up almost half a point per season for 2 season, with Vegas a couple seasons back, so he has to be good, right.

I know full well why, it’s just 300 posts a day is overkill, lots of topics to discuss is all.
