I’m fine with that. Like I said, the temporal solution is free agents or trades. Yzerman has done very well by the team bringing in Greiss and Bernier. The pipeline will take time to fill. He’ll figure it out. It’s just a bit bare in the cupboards.
If Gibson ever hit the market I like him a lot |

I’d probably wait to post expansion draft to sign anyone |

I think Yzerman would be more than comfortable drafting Wallstedt or Cossa with the second first round pick. He could be playing things close to the vest and willing to take Wallstedt at 6. If that is where he goes, we need to trust in his judgment. He's earned that much with what he has accomplished so far here and the results in Tampa. That is still pretty much his team and last time i checked they were still playing and oh yeah, defending champions as well. In Yzerman we trust. |

I agree he’s earned the trust. If he goes goalie at 6, he’s got a good reason for it. There’s a fairly loud “collaborative” that says you never draft a goalie high, some say never in the first round, and some never at all. The scouting this time around is skewed toward players who, well, played last season. I don’t go “in God we trust” on anything, but he’s more than capable of building something very special. This draft is all over the map depending on where the scouts focused. Yzerman has a really solid process. |

Probably a bit of a challenge to sign UFAs before free agency starts. But Yzerman is full of tricks. |

Yeah. Probably like the free agent interview period. They’ll have a deal framed and make it official later. He’s been working phones constantly. I’d love to see his calendar! |

Sign Bernier for 2 yrs at $3M is fine with me. However there are a lot of FA goalies, and if he were to sign one I think Ullmark or Dreidger would be fine but they would probably demand more term. Ullmark has injury concerns...but so does Bernier. |

There’s plenty of options to share the net with Greiss imo. Mrazek. Halak. Bernier. Andersen. Etc. |

I’ve said before that if Detroit is looking to draft and develop a franchise goalie this is the draft to get that guy wether it’s wallstadt, cossa or anyone else past the 1st round.
My main reason for that belief is that the wings are likely to be in the tank for another 2-3 years which means that any goalie selected now should be breaking in/entering his prime right as the wings are looking to compete again.
I don’t think any of us had askarov going to the preds last year so unless there’s any leaks I just have San Jose selecting wallstadt as a place filler and since Jones is terrible. That said considering how well things worked out with Vasy in Tampa I wouldn’t be surprised if Stevie was higher on wallstadt than others.
As far as cossa goes getting a skater at 6 and him with your second pick would be the best of both worlds but I think the wings will have to trade up ahead of Edmonton’s pick if they really want him. |

I think you’re on to something there. That trade up could happen. |

Rodrigue and Illya Konovala that is boosting a .934 SP in the KHL, Illya is signed and they hope he should come over next season.

KP is pulling a Vesey and gonna jump ship, huh. Too bad. Still think we can snag a couple goalie prospects in the 2nd round if Cossa is not there for the Washington pick. I still would rather 2 skaters with the first rounders. There are several goalies that the Wings can choose from in the 2nd round. Gaudreau and Kolosov should be available in the 2nd, both good choices! Kolosov has a .910 in the KHL this season! |

Maybe it’s just because he’s an Edmonton boy and played for the oil kings but one of the oilers mouth pieces Bob stauffer has been hyping up cossa quite a bit over the last few months and it’s not unlike Holland to “leak out” who he’s targeting to get the fan bases perception. |

I was just about to do a whole post on those “leaks”. GMs manipulate those things like crazy. That realization is the “Rosetta Stone” to interpret what’s really going on. Nice post. |

Meh. Yzerman got really lucky with Vasy the way goalies are. Everyone had Subban ranked right there with Vasy. And Dansk went like 12 picks after Vasy too. I would like to see the Washington pick in play for a trade to move up for Power or for a good established NHLer. |

Washington pick isn't gonna get you to 1 or 2, the 6th + probably isn't enough to get you to 1. And I am not trying to be a d!ck, just going off what Adams said it would have to be a offer that moves the needle |

That’s fair. I saw the replies from the Buffalo thread. Just would like that pick to get moved for more of a guarantee especially with the cap space Detroit has. |

Well I don't know who the Sabres are gonna take, think it depends on what happens with Eichel and if he's traded and what pieces come back. But Power is gonna go 1 or 2. And even moving to 2 would probably cost 6+. |
