I'd posted the idea of trading up with SJ using their 2nd as well, so I like that strategy. From there, I might have taken Brandt Clarke ahead of Dylan Guenther, but either would be very welcome additions to the prospect pool. - khawk
I am of that opinion too. We have a lot of prospects so I think using one of our two seconds, whether it be San Jose or our own, to trade up and grab a player which could be NHL ready sooner rather than later - in a draft of complete uncertainty, is quality asset management. Taking two potential busts (10OA, 38OA) and turning it into a top of the draft quality prospect - who may actually push Batherson down to the second line, would be a great add.
In reality, at that point, if Dorion has traded up to select either of those guys I’d trust his opinion over mine. I’d say Guenther as we already have Chabot and Branny who are offensive defensemen. Clarke seems soft to me for some reason.
However, I’m a believer in surplus depth of quality wingers as it’s a huge underlying number for championship teams. My opinion.
What are thoughts in regards to McGuire hiring?
I can’t really tell you what my opinion is because it’s such a strange hire IMO. |

Pierre is clearly very knowledgeable. He has an encyclopedia level understanding, he just is very awkward, and says weird things.
I spoke with someone who hypothesized that this is the first step in eventually making pierre GM of the team. Based on the involvment of Melnyk in the whole hiring process. - david22
It is a fair point that McGuire has had some bad takes and said weird things. Considering that he has had 2000+ hours on TV and radio interviews, I think it can be expected to some degree.
Bryan Murray was brought in as coach under Muckler before replacing him. McGuire likely has the inside track on replacing Dorion as you suggest. |

The SB Nation/Silver Seven Sens mock draft has the Senators taking Fabian Lysell at #10 overall...
https://www.silversevense...an-lysell-with-no-10-pick
Personally, I really like Lysell and have been touting him as a darkhorse pick for quite a while, but I found it interesting that the the response poll suggested Wallstedt would have been a more popular selection. Given the potential impact of a legit franchise goaltender, especially in combination with such a promising young defense group, it would be hard to argue against picking Wallstedt if he's still on the board. |

Lysell is an intriguing pick. I'd be very on board with the, taking him at that point. |

His SEL production is a question mark, but his WU18 was very strong (he and Rosen tied for Sweden's team scoring lead), and the eye test is just undeniable. He's also a natural RW, and very capable of playing up and down the lineup - which should make for a smooth NHL transition. However, there's always the issue of who you're leaving on the table at #10. They may see one of Lucius or Sillinger as a more probable top-6 forward, and in fairness it's not exactly clear if Lysell has more offensive upside than other burner-type wingers like C. Brown or Formenton. They're very good players, but at #10 they need to be pulling scoring-line quality talent.
FYI - in the 'Scouching Report' mock draft yesterday, Lysell went at #3... in the HockeyBuzz mock draft he went at #12. |

Are the Sens the only team on this site that do not have a blogger?
We are getting close to some important dates and it would be nice to have something to read. |
