Isn't adding Goodrow going to be like what we did with Roussel? He cost 900 K this year but lots of teams will be wanting him and it will probably be at 2.5 mil plus for 4 years?
- VANTEL

Roussel has always been an agitator, like komarov. Goodrow is nothing like roussel. The biggest thing, is if that is the ask, you simply walk away. We can't afford any free agents this off season really, but it's still nice to dream. Goodrow would be the toughest guy on our team.

Roussel or Beagle would never do this.

It's one of the only things he has done exceptionally well!!

- LordHumungous

His drafting hasn't been "exceptional", it's just been average to good. If you look at three teams that drafted in good positions starting in 2014, Carolina-Buffalo-Vancouver, they've all done around the same.

Carolina acquired more picks (59) since 2014, they produced 2138 NHL games out of their draft picks. Buffalo had 48 picks, produced 1862 NHL games. Vancouver had 48 picks and produced 1801 NHL games.

Carolina drafted 7th, 5th, 13th, 12th, 2nd, 28th & 13th in the first round.

Buffalo drafted 2nd, 2nd, 8th, 8th, 1st, 7th, 8th in the first round.

Vancouver drafted 6th, 23rd, 5th, 5th, 7th & 10th in the first round - 24th as well if you count the pick they got for Kesler from Anaheim in 2014.

An extreme reaction from the Canucks fan base...... whhhhattt.

I don't think any GM gets to "exceed expectations" in drafting. Some are better than others for sure but the margin between them I don't think is ever too vast.

So far during Jim's draft tenure, I would put him in the top 10 so far.

It could be viewed differently if he was better at other parts of his job.

For me only drafted this is fully eliminated now is the 14 draft. 15 draft still has Jasek and Zhukenov who could take another step that would put them into a bottom 6 role.

- manvanfan

Ya, that's fair, and that's all I was asking. People on here can put him up as the best drafter, and that's the reason he has his job is because is drafting is the best. Just trying to call that into question – because if he's really not the best drafter, why is there such a fervent need to use that to defend his tenure? His trading is overall poor, signings have been poor, cap management poor.. so if his drafting isn't actually the best, what's left?

I don't watch prospects, but read around for people that do, and while those names pop up here and there, there's not much conversation about those other guys making a jump soon. But, never know, they could take some strides

Goodrow would be a great addition I think. I like how he plays.

JB should go after finding a gem or two or 9 instead of paying.

I don't know why a few of you on here would be looking at free agents in the first place. Sorry but being honest.

Bennings biggest complaint over the years is what he has done in free agency and todays topic seems to be an issue that they don't have money for free agents. BTW they do have but I am not going down that road again.

You do have a few prospects ready soon to step in Like Cosmar Persson Lind Gadj Foch . These are players that have a decent chance at being bottom 6 players so why sign one and do the Beagle Roussel thing all over?

Also I think Goodrow would be another Roussel . I still think the Canucks have a decent roster but man they need to fix things such as coaching and team personalities.

Av'sVegas has been fun to watch. It does appear that the Av's defense, although very nice, might be getting outmatched a bit, by the stronger forwards on the Knights.
The Bruins will be bouncing back against the New York Saints.

- Reubenkincade

I liked the New York Saints comment, I also liked how Cassidy got fined and not Trotzs.

Bergeron showed respect to Trotz by saying his comments about him cheating in face offs was a veteran move. Now the linesmen will think a little more at the dot.

Wish the Canucks could have a coach like Trotz. ❤️

I already stated that we shouldn't sign any free agents or make any trades this off season due to Benning making terrible free agent signings that are tying up the cap. It's still nice to dream of who could make our team better/tougher had he not made those mistakes.

I dont think any of the prospects you named above are ready. Not from what we saw this year anyway

When listening to Malloy yesterday, the importance of drafting for a GM is #1 in my mind.

You can see where being last in drafting put the team and how much work is involved in getting the team out of last place.

Jim isn't as bad as some would claim he is at those other parts. Cap management, yes he is that bad.

Did you see the Knights defensive posture? They trap it up hard, 1-2-2 setup all the time, but they can turn the offence on quickly when the other team turns it over. Very opportunistic team. Personally I don't like how they play, but it certainly works for them.
- Pacificgem

It's amazing how good they are considering they have basically no C depth.

I said soon ready. I agree they need more time but they look like they can play a NHL game.

I wonder if JB is going to take a swing for the fences just because I personally think he is at the end of the rope in public opinion .

Free Agency I would keep very simple this year. Hamonic Graovac Tinordi and Sutter all under 1.5 and no longer than two years.

One could also say that with all the bullpoop going on in the world, why would you get pissed off about some guys spending their own money and having a laugh? Much more happening in the world to be angry about

Drafting, of course, is massively important. Not knocking that at all. Drafting, signing, trades are the three cornerstones – can't really just have one doing the heavy lifting. And in JB's case, it's mainly drafting.

JB has had his wins in signings and trades for sure. I think the thing most people who rag on him hate is his decision making/planning that constantly undercuts the process/timeline. He is his own worst enemy... he's dug himself into a hole and is being handed more shovels to dig himself out of it.

I don't follow the prospects well enough to give an informed opinion, however, I will say this, it's really hard to find a top pairing defenseman so I put high value on a kid that has that potential. That'd be my first priority as a franchise.

Secondly, I'd take the best center available, depth at center is an absolute must if you want to be good.
