Read your situation and pick your spots better. Pro scouting needs to be a focus moving forward.
Paying more because you have to is situational. - 1970vintage
Ok pro scouting is an issue but as far as we know it is the same pro scouting for next year so that is even more of a reason not to rely on Free Agency.

Which many people – mainly the Benning naysayers – don't want him to dive in. That is why when he says he's going to be aggressive in FA, we all moan about it.
If they're signing low-cost 1 year deals, that's not a big issue: it's not going to impact their ability to sign better players (hopefully under new management) next year, when the cap actually opens up. |

This.
I also don't know how you are aggressive in free agency with your two stars still needing contracts and 15 mill to work with. |

I am certainly not defending Benning but I look at what Treliving did this year with spending in Free Agency and they barely beat out the Canucks.
I know some will say look at the Habs . Habs had 24 wins this year and 32 losses and right now are benefitting by playing in a really crappy division . Leafs losing in the first round is as predictable as Xmas happening on Dec 25 th. We will find out next year when their division is back to normal how they are.
I don't think you can build a cup winner in Free Agency . I might be wrong so we will soon see. You can add a player like Hossa but I don't think you can build your team from mostly FAs .

Maybe he is going to be aggressive in getting good free agents for cheap. |

Let's see if Canucks spend more in signings than 15 mil including Hughes and Pettersson. I will predict they spend closer to 24- 25 mil.

I agree. BUT, I think if they set their plan better and stick to it they could still use free agency to help improve. If they simply hired you as a consultant to tell them “that is a bad decision” they could have saved millions. |

Miller for Konecny and P.Myers
Get younger, Konecny is Bo’s cousin and can score and isn’t afraid to mix it up either. Myers could be a decent #4 dman here and we get another Myers

Bad decisions is not new to this franchise. Ballard Booth Messier
I would try not to go into free agency too deep and I also do like some free agents so there is always the temptation.

They will have to dip into free agency a bit to get a couple defensemen. Hopefully they look at some guys like Hakanpaa, who should be under 2 million. |

They don't really need to do anything much TBH
They could go with Schmidt OJ Rathbone Myers Hughes Chatfield.
It is not a popular choice but they could. I think they will be more active in trades than FA . Just my opinion.

Sure they could, but I doubt they want to get blown out on a nightly basis. |

Sure hope they leave Woo in the minors, it would ruin him, being rushed into the league. |

I really don't know what this team is going to look like, next season, we should have a better idea in 6 weeks or so. |

The team will be better, last season was filled with facts that shouldn't happen again.
Schmidt will vastly improve, Myers is a good defenceman, and hopefully Harmonic will also greatly stabilize the backend. Hughes will set scoring records and be a Norris candidate. Rathbone looked good, impressed with his development. |
