Ya boi!
In this alternative reality, we moved Schmidt, resigned Edler for the league minimum
Hughes Hamilton
Bone Edler
OJ Myers - dbot
Edler doesn't play RD. Might as well sign Hamonic for less. If you're trading Schmidt its in package for Seth Jones give him the Hamilton cap/term. |

I know what most people would say but would you trade Loui for PK? They both have one year left . You get a RHD for one year at 3 mil

Yes, PK can play during a game, Eriksson can play in the press box during a game.
Can’t see any team taking on Loui. |

I think if they played their cards right NJ could turn around and use Loui as part of a bait to get Seth Jones
Seriously if NJ needed cap space they might consider it but they have plenty of space. |

I'd trade LE for Lefty's jock strap. But hey Utica is gone so he'll hang with the Sedins this season in Abby. |

Green always talked about being a run and gun team. Fast in transition. His systems were the problem. - manvanfan

Listen you jackass. This dude was a hot
Commodity. Green had several phone interviews with him. His reputation made him an organizational target: the minute the Canucks were made aware he was available they were the first team to call. Would’ve done this previously.
Not anymore.
Makita is correct.
Nobody is taking Loui off our hands.

Really?
Do the Islanders have decent players to replace him? Yes, do the Bruins have decent players to replace Carlo, or Miller on defense, No.
I realize you are still upset because the Bruins were so mean to the Canucks, back in....wait, how long ago was that. |

A section from a piece on the Athletic about the coaches and where they fit:
On Wednesday, the Vancouver Canucks announced a series of changes, modifications and extensions for their coaching staff.
The announcement comes on the heels of intense internal discussion over the past few weeks that was followed by a flurry of negotiations over the past month with everyone from head coach Travis Green to goaltending coach Ian Clark.
The final product was unveiled Wednesday as the club parted ways with Newell Brown, shuffled Chris Higgins back into hockey operations in the player development role he held before the 2020-21 season and hired veteran NHL assistant coach Brad Shaw and longtime Portland Winterhawks assistant coach Kyle Gustafson.
Various candidates were considered for the role Shaw is filling, as Canucks decision-makers felt that after four years with roughly the same coaching staff, the club could use some new voices and new perspectives. It’s a feeling that originated from management but that Green was receptive to.
Enter Shaw and Gustafson.
The Shaw hire is the starriest of the new additions. The long-tenured assistant coach has had stops with the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets and has developed a reputation for working with — and maximizing — talented young defencemen such as Alex Pietrangelo, Seth Jones and Zach Werenski. Known as a detail-oriented and open-minded student of the game, Shaw will arrive in Vancouver with a more general portfolio than is usually seen from an assistant coach.
Discussions with various team sources — and as Shaw alluded to during a fascinating hit on Sportsnet 650 on Wednesday afternoon — indicate that the role appears to more closely match the job description of a traditional associate coach.
Green and Shaw don’t have a close prior connection, but the decision to add him to the staff — after interviews were conducted with other candidates — was Green’s.
“I talked to him for three or four hours over a couple of days,” Green told The Athletic when reached by telephone Wednesday, “and it felt like he was the right guy to add to our staff.
“There’s something to be said for a guy like Brad Shaw — who is a real student of the game, studies the game, has a good read offensively and defensively — and he’s a fresh new voice for our group.”
Though Green and Shaw don’t have a prior personal connection, Gustafson and Green are longtime friends and worked together in Portland, including the 2012-13 season, when the Winterhawks made it to the Memorial Cup Final.
“I’ve kept in contact with him, when I talk about fresh voices and new voices, I think there’s something to be said for fresh new voices from outside the NHL, too,” Green said of Gustafson. “When him and I coached years ago, he was always studying the NHL, breaking down NHL video, even when I turned pro and coached in Utica and Vancouver, we talked a lot about the NHL game. He’s a sharp guy with systems, and I think having a fresh voice from that standpoint is going to help us as well.”
Gustafson would superficially appear to fill the spot Higgins held down after longtime Canucks skills coach Glen Carnegie departed the organization in the 2020 offseason, but his assignments will match his title — assistant coach/special assignment coach — and isn’t skills-related. Coaches with specialized systems portfolios are becoming more common in the NHL, a template that’s been set by the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have a coach on staff named Brian Garlock. Garlock’s title is video coordinator, but he’s worked with Lightning head coach Jon Cooper for 15 years, specializing in diagnosing opponents’ systems.
The Canucks will have three assistant coaches on their bench next season: Shaw and returning assistants Jason King and Nolan Baumgartner.
King, who was the club’s eye-in-the-sky during the 2021 season, will take over running the power play. Baumgartner will continue running the defence and penalty kill, as he has for the Canucks the past four seasons. |
