I mean, they could have waited to see. There was no rush to resign Pearson before the TDL, but Benning felt it imperative for some reason. - NewYorkNuck
Benning could have come up empty handed or he could have overpaid for Pearson or someone else.
Maybe he did over pay for Pearson. (I hope not)
Benning probably went with the safest route which also made some of the players happy. |

A section from a piece on the Athletic about the coaches and where they fit: - NewYorkNuck
See Vintsy, they interviewed others. No reason for panic |

Not sure how any of these teams are having playoff success, without the "new-age" small defenseman

Yup - and some of the idiot fans want to roll with Stecher, Rathbone and Hughes. What a disaster |

i had the same thought.
in my opinion, jb told him that changes had to be made. he wanted a strong assistant coach and probably gave him a couple names.
tg agrees and in exchange he gets to bring in one of his own guys. so both guys get what they want.
at the end of the day, the coaching staff is much stronger than it was two days ago. but just like 99% of people in here, i'd like baumer to have been replaced. - RealityChecker

Looks like I was wrong about there being no actual search done for additional coaches, thanks NYN for posting that bit from The Athletic. I’m sorry to have raised the question Don, can you ever forgive me?
It also looks as though someone else was wrong about coaching assignments. - 1970vintage

It was sign him or trade by TDL. Leaf's were in the market for a top six then. |

I can see why haven't just given him the defence. It's about everyone playing the game the right way for both forwards and defenders. - manvanfan
So before the huge hire everyone was playing the WRONG way? I hear this every time they interview players, “we need to play the right way” So cliche. |

Going Islanders the rest of the way. They play the way I like seeing a team play. - Reubenkincade
Barzel’s a BC boy, grew up with his dad in Osoyoos. He was a pretty good goal scorer for Penticton in his day, he might still hold the goal scoring record for them. |

Also I’ve read in the lasts that Yzerman told his TB staff to do some research(not sure how analytical based it was), but apparently they came to the conclusion that height is important for defensemen |

As long as TB doesn't repeat. I think the Isles winning the cup. An Isles and Habs final I don't think would appeal to very many. - manvanfan

As much as I rag on Schmidt and others rag on Myers, they are both fine if they had some help. The players you mention above would be very nice additions.
Both Myers and Schmidt need complementary players with them. - Reubenkincade
