He was playing 2 sports before his draft year and Hockey wasn't his first choice till he realized how good he could be if he put all his time into 1 sport. - DirtyDan
He channeled a hidden natural ability that is typically known to the scouting world when those kids are pre-teen.
People hate Jack Quinn because he isn't better than Marco Rossi or Cole Perfetti today. I've dug pretty deep on him leading up to and post draft (after it was rumored the Sabres really liked him) and absolutely love his back story and phenomenal development curve. He was a (frank)ing nobody a year prior. That's impressive that he scaled unimaginable odds to get into the top 15 ranks.
He's going to be good, and gooder than Drew Goddamn Stafford, ya (frank)ing haters. - TheSabresTaco
I hope you're right. I hope I eat a lot of crow on it (and not so much that he'll be a bust, never said he would, just that Rossi would be better). And honestly, even if he is better in Minny, I don't really care if Quinn is a beast for us. I do care a little bit, as I wanted Rossi's upside, which Quinn could have as well. Another thing to consider, like Hank said, he's an older kid for his draft, and would have been going against 16-20 year olds in the OHL, so right in the middle the year he blew up.

that's another one...let's say that the top five players all have the character they want...as we go through the list:
power is a safe bet who may have 2/3 upside
berniers is a top-six talent who may top out at a two-way, lower-end 1st-line center
hughes is somewhat of an unknown because of his age but projects out as a probable top-four d-man but his upside is that of a dynamic, top-pairing rearguard
eklund and guenther look to be a top-six talents with dynamic top-line upside
i guess it comes down to what you want and how you spin it - Michael Pachla
Ok, let's say character for all top prospects is the same. Extremely driven, highly competitive, extremely coachable, etc.
Then, who plays the most valuable position? Is it 1D or 1C? What is their upside at respective positions? Does Luke Hughes overcome Owen Power in D+3/4? Does Eklund project to score 85 points on the wing playing like Ehlers, vs Beniers who plays the game like Toews, scoring 60 points a year... who is more valuable? That's a good question.
Project their physical attributes by their body composition today, which is relatively easy to do.. then you determine how dominant these kids can be by their existing and projected attributes. I wouldn't be mad if I snagged new Erik Karlsson, new Jonathan Toews, or new Nikolaj Ehlers

kagm is no longer a rookie gm and agmka has extensive experience in that area...i guess we'll see what kind of vision they have

He's older, sure, but he's behind developmentally because of what truly was a late start to his career. He's going to be fun to watch. I'll be serving some piping hot crow in a few years. I love this kid.
Interesting if you were to get Byfield and Bjornfot in a Eichel trade, what becomes more important in the draft. Do you trade down a bit. What if Rhino stays. Would you trade to say 5 if Columbus offered Elvis and another 1st.

It's been a while since an early first round whiff on a goalie has happened. So I'd actually be surprised if Wallstedt was a bust, or even average. - TheSabresTaco
