You get guys like Dahlin, like Cozens, like nu-Mittelstadt, guys who bust their ass to be the best on the ice day in and day out, great team mates, want to win here. I am acutely aware of a culture and player character type that Kevyn is looking for.
Ristolainen too, if he wasn't a bag of (frank)ing rocks and nonchalant about being here. - TheSabresTaco
I think you are missing on risto. Off the ice anyways. He's very prideful and wants to be a nhl captain. Really isnt a harder working guy ( other than jack) from what I heard.
Your on ice perception of risto is probably closer than i would like to admit |

What do you make of the scouting report that says Owen Power could be a Byfuglien/Burns combo dman and forward? - Hank Balling
I think its funny that would be some Joe Finley vibes lol He doesn't have the body to be a power forward imo just let that dude be in the Lidstrom Category not Physical and be done with it lol

Why though if he doesnt need to?
Risto takes him self outta plays with his big hits... Or so i've heard around here. You guys want him gone.
But now we have a young guy coming along who uses his body but stays in the play at the same time. Which is exactly what you want. You don't see Hedman smashing people left and right. - DirtyDan
Solid post.
While I do think a guy given physical attributes like he possess should use them to the fullest extent possible to maximize his play, running around trying to lay the big bit isn't always effective. |

yeah I have no doubt that Risto cares. It's just that he's not any (frank)ing good.

I've come to post my semi-regular rant and then probably disappear for awhile again. I don't think I've been this disappointed and disgusted to be a Sabres fan since July of 07'. This team seems to find new ways to frustrate me and honestly, if I could somehow not care about them, I gladly would. But I'm a Buffalo sports fan through and through and I'll probably still be frustrated about every move they make forever.
I was for the tank years, I wanted McDavid and if not him, Eichel. I loved Reinhart and feel pretty good about him still, although there were obviously a few better options. Teams have shown you can't just have 2 star players and hope to be good (Oilers) and the Sabres have at times tried to put a competitive team together. But they have also constantly made the wrong moves. I am proud of how much I hated the ROR trade when it happened. We didn't even get one of their top 4 prospects and also took on 2 longer contracts of 3rd-4th line players. But ownership has their heads so far up their own asses that they couldn't take a little criticism of the team so they shipped ROR out of town and he won a Stanley cup MVP to shove it in their faces.
You would think being apart of easily one of the top 5 worst NHL trades of all time, the Pegula's would learn and grow from it, right? Appears not...
I'm not even talking about how tone def they are in terms of the arena and fan experience. Those obviously need upgrades. But if this team were good again, I'd watch them in a high school arena. They and their puppet Adams are about to trade Eichel and likely Reinhart. Eichel who when healthy is a top 10 player in the NHL. Eichel who, prior to this season, was over a point per game player on the worst teams in hockey, Eichel who is only 24 years old!! They've done such a bad job with their franchise center they tanked for, that he wants nothing to do with them.
I know there's an argument that Eichel is a locker room cancer (Sound familiar?) or that he parties and doesn't take his job seriously, but I believe most of that is just BS. Sure it would be great if hey had the personality of a Mckinnon or even McDavid. But even McDavid has let his frustrations known. Besides the point, none of that should matter!!! You don't trade your best 2 players when you have crap below them!
What has really set me off recently was Adams, the moronic self-righteous puppet. He can't come out and support his good players, he has to throw shade at them furthering the divide they have with this franchise. If I hear "We want players who want to be here." one more (frank)ing time, I'm going to combust!! How about you take responsibility for icing a dead last hockey team. I don't care if Adams has been here 1 year or 10, he is the GM of the longest active playoff drought hockey team and his egotistical employers have been here for all of them! How either oblivious or just downright benevolent can you be to not realize your fanbase despises you? I would like to add that the Pegula's have done a lot of great things for the city and for the Buffalo Bills. But they have destroyed this hockey team.
It would be refreshing and at this point a miracle for Adams to say "We understand players are frustrated and it's our goal to build around Jack and Sam" but instead this oblivious moron wants to act like these guys should be begging to play here?! I've got news for you, you 4th line has-been, the only players who want to be here are those young enough to not know better (Cozens, Dahlin) or those bad enough to not get an offer anywhere else (Pretty much every player the last 10 years we try and disguise as top six forwards) If I played in the NHL and wasn't from Buffalo, I would NEVER want to play here. Because the team sucks and they cause all of their players to become depressed and hate it here. Lehner, ROR, Eichel, Reinhart, Risto, Kane... the list goes on and on.
I guess in closing, I feel like they should've taken the stance, of only trading Eichel or Reinhart if they were getting an absolute steal of a deal back. Now Eichel has smartly leveraged the Sabres and Adams is running around with his pants down hoping to get a mid 1st round pick and a teams 4th best prospect and a few 33 year-old 3rd line vets with overpriced contracts.
Time is a flat circle. |

Risto is the hockey player version of a cave man. Or a viking I guess. Power is actually intelligent.
I don't need Power to be The Juggernaut. But it would be nice if he was more physical than noted offensive dynamo, Rasmus Dahlin.
It's ok to throw a few deadly hip checks per season. He has an asset, his size and eventually weight, that can positively impact his own team. I don't need the guy running amuck searching for a hit, but once in a while, crush someone. - TheSabresTaco

We need more Italian players. Then, we'd be the toughest, highest scoring team in the league. |

Hey, how'd the Canes do last night? You about ready to pick a new favorite team? Lightning? Golden Knights? That sounds about right, right? Anyone that cheers for an out of market team is a total fraud of a fan. |

I didn't come here to argue with people like you. I came here to voice my complaints about this franchise that are well thought out and factual. If you don't like the hard truth, then get excited about the subpar return we're about to get for our franchise centerman. Maybe we'll pick 8th again next year instead of top3! |

Montreal because it's the funniest possible result.
But no I probably won't watch anything else the rest of the year. Having a 1 year old makes watching games hard enough as it is when they're ones I actually care about.

Just curious, as I do not have a "local team", do I get free reign to choose, are am I bound by geography and must choose the closest? |

Coming off a major neck injury, the entire league knows he wants out and that Adams has to trade him. Has a huge cap hit that teams will exploit and has a GM who is well over his head.
Nothing short of 1 of a teams top 2 prospects, another top 6 prospect, a 1st round pick and a top 4 (on their team) NHL player under 25 will be good enough for Jack.
We're not going to get that. Even if we do, it's not the right mentality to have. As per my post, they slowly destroy everyone who comes here with the losing and they always look like idiots because of it. They did it with ROR and they're about to do it with Eichel and Reinhart. |
