Talk to any Toronto fan and they’ll say he gives up easy goals at the worst times. Another Murray type. - Barnaby36
You've mentioned "talking to Toronto fans" about this and that a few times but how many are you talking to in real in life? or are you reading comments on sites such as this? Me, I'm talking to multiple Leafs fans daily as I'm surrounded by them. They most all think he was pretty damn good and the loses were never really his fault usually. He'd usually be out-saving the opposing goalies by a huge margin. |

Unless the Pens go in on a vet for around $1.5M they're better off just shipping Jarry out and getting a proven goalie if they can.
I still think a Jarry/Kuemper switch would a wise move. |

From 2017 to 2020 Andersen had the highest xG Against out of any goalie that started 2000 or more mins at 5 on 5 all while having a .924 SV% and 2.49 GAA
2nd in xG against in that time frame is Gibson who had a .922 SV% and 2.41 SV% |

Not arguing that, but it doesn't fit the Pens budget. - Rinosaur
They need to change their budget then. |

Zero interest in Freddie Andersen. I like this idea around a Jarry for Keumper deal. I still prefer trying to make things happen on a Jarry for Gibson deal but this might be a more realistic one. |

@TOJO: Take a look at this and tell me how the Pens double their goalie budget. For reference I made the following signings.
Teddy $2.25M
ZAR $2M
Freddy $800K
Over the cap by $3.8M
This doesn't include who they may lose in the draft because we really don't know and obviously not all of those dmen will be on the roster. No room to re-sign Ceci. They need to move players just to get cap compliant, so how do you do even more to make room to add more than $2M to the goalie budget without sacrificing any other quality?
Not trying to be combative, but I just don't see how it's possible to strike a balance throughout the lineup while increasing the goalie budget.

It starts with moving Zucker and Petterson and taking back as little salary as possible.
I hear LA is looking for two top 6 forwards and an upgrade over Maata on LD. Seems like a perfect fit as they also have tons of cap space.
Zucker & Petterson for Kupari, Maata and a 3rd rounder. Buy out Maata and it is only a $1M cap impact this year so you open up $8M in cap space. POJ inserted into the lineup leaves you with $7M in cleared space.
If you work a Jarry + Picks/Prospects trade for Gibson you eat up $2.5M of that...
Can you sign Saad for the remaining $4.5M? Lets get this going...

If the Pens are trying to bring in a vet to play with Jarry I don't think they can afford someone who would match his price. IMO they'd be bringing in someone making less and I don't see Andersen signing for less than $3.5M. If he comes in around $1.5/$2? That would be great and they can probably send DeSmith out for a late pick.

Andersen doesn’t suck. He just isn’t an upgrade. |

Probably because he’s part of the 4 forwards that account for 49.7% of the cap. |

I could see Saad doing something similar to what Hoffmann did and maybe taking a tad less to up his next contract, so I'm not sure that $4/$4.5M for one year somewhere is completely unrealistic.

Not so much that they hate him specifically but his cap hit and for what he brings. They all want him gone. |

Not sure guys will be taking one year deals now they know the cap will be flat for a few years. |

9 dmen is ridiculous. IMO we should have our 6 starters, Friedman who can play both sides as a 7th, then injury callous go to the A; Lee, Maniscalco, Reilly.
Especially that left side. 19m. Atrocious! |

Tatar is gonna be the cheap impact forward of this UFA class because apparently he’s Montreal’s 14th best forward now. |

Well it’s a 24 man roster that doesn’t account for losing a player to Seattle and waiving the fringe NHLers. |

He also clearly didn't read my post regarding what I said about the dmen and doesn't grasp the concept of creating a starting point of what the Pens will have to start dealing. |

Haha I know.
But really. Zucker and Petts gone is 9.5m in cap. Desmith and Ruh to AHL is almost another 2. So you’d have 7m for a goalie and winger.
2.5-3M for Tatar
4-4.5M for a goalie. |

I don't think Tatar will be Hex's first or even second choice based on what we know as far the type of players they will target.
Also, moving Zucker and Pettersson doesn't necessarily clear up 100% depending what salaries they may have to take back. Unless the Pens can make a good trade for Zucker, it's more ideal he gets picked up in the draft.
I'm not saying the Pens can't increase their goalie budget, but them already being in a difficult situation just to keep some of what they have is tricky.
