He took this team to the 2nd round of the playoffs and won away from the 3rd round. - Nucker101
Too bad he made a rookie mistake and didn't put Demko in, in game 5 in the second game of the back to back like every other coach did that night. |

Will certainly help in a playoff series, and I imagine he will watch a lot of video to pre-scout upcoming opponents. - 1970vintage

I think he said Gustafson’s specialty was breaking down other teams systems? I don’t think he will be implementing anything, more advising on how to counter other teams tactics. - 1970vintage
I guess we will see, I took the quote from Green as reported by Carol, systems, fresh voice...I guess we will see.
"When him and I coached years ago, he was always studying the NHL, breaking down NHL video, even when I turned pro and coached in Utica and Vancouver, we talked a lot about the NHL game. He’s a sharp guy with systems, and I think having a fresh voice from that standpoint is going to help us as well." |

Not always. An unsigned Jones is available to anyone willing to pay, a signed Jones is only available where he wants to play. If 30 teams only want him signed and he shortlist 2 or 3 teams that limits trade partners. - Retinalz
This makes no sense.
The return that Columbus would receive if Jones were under contract, or the team acquiring him was given permission to negotiate an extension in advance would be far greater than if he flat out says he will not sign an extension with anyone and will test free agency when his current deal is up. |

If you read the bit that NYN posted in the last blog it talks a bit more about it.
Ah, you edited while I was replying.
Could be interpreted a couple ways I guess |

Yes, I agree, gives hope for a more well structured game by both forwards and defence, smart move by Benning to force Green into new coaching philosophies. And good on Green for his active role in choosing both candidates. |

You simply didn't understand what I was getting at. If several teams want to deal, but only if an extension is in place. Only one team gets that done and no other team does, his value suffers. They can risk waiting for TDL, but who knows if something better comes along. |

Baumer is still around cuz he is Green's buddy but cue the drama between Shaw and Baumer. Hopefully Baumer gets reduced to puck passing duty.

I'd assume with Shaw's experience that he'd be higher up in the pecking order than Baumer, seems more like Shaw will be the right hand man since he said that he'll have input in everything, so I assume he'll be giving Green/Baumer input but Baumer will still technically be in charge of dmen. |

Maybe he will learn a thing or two and become a better coach. |

Just seen an interesting topic on Twitter . What if Wallstedt is still there at 9 and all your favorites are gone. They pointed out with Ian Clarke in charge of all goaltending you would pretty well sow up your goal tending for the next 10 years. |

Shaw reports only to Green, everyone else reports/takes direction from Shaw and Green.
Clark does his own thing, with the occasional input and output from all, so the goalies and the rest of the squad are on the same page.
Ultimately, Green has the final say, but Shaw will be very influential on many things, including input at the draft table. |

I agree, hopefully this is the year the team makes a solid step forward.
The team has 2 quality centres, a very good offensive defenseman( that needs some structure) some good wingers and Myers on defense.
Okay, they have Schmidt as well, but these guys also need structure.
This is the most upbeat I have felt about this team in several years, hopefully the next 6 weeks continue with positive moves. |

Trade down with Ottawa one spot because they need a tendy really (frank)ing badly. Probably get a 2nd for it because Dorion. |

Why would Ottawa trade up one spot if they know/think the Canucks aren't going to take a goalie? |
