Maybe the Sabres don't want him back as a full time assistant. Or maybe they do. We don't know. He has the right to explore different opportunities.
We sat here and laughed when no name Donnie, no name MFE and no name Girardi got thrown into the coaching spots. And now everyone wants Donnie to come back.
Point is, none of us know how these guys, the next guys will perform. Kevyn and Jason seem extremely focused on fit over almost anything. That's a positive. Find the right fit for this group of players. - TheSabresTaco
Zero disagreement here…. The question becomes will they be allowed to hire that fit.
We don’t have a choice but to wait and see. Hopefully the Isles series wraps up quickly and Adams can interview that assistant and we can move on to trades and draft.
My point is, let the man do his job. He's got a TON on his plate.
But I have zero doubt that he'll work just as hard at this job as he did being a guy who probably had no business playing 540 games in the NHL. - Powerslave
And he's got some experienced help in karmanos. Which is good.

Having an open mind towards Adams and possibly Donnie Brasco is entertaining but ignoring the notion that Terry and Kim have final say is where the mistakes are made. It’s so obvious yet Terry and Kim continue to micro-manage.
Adams could have great ideas but still needs ownership approval, why?
There is no way McBeane allowed Terry to over rule them, the NFL definitely guided the Pegulas in the hiring process. The NHL failed to help and now we have failed owners with trust issues, leading to only hiring friends and family, and we are hoping things go right this off season.
This is a total rebuild no doubt about it, pending moves made this summer it could be 3 seasons or another 5-7 before this organization can compete. - washedup20
Terry and Kim: The cinderblocks tied to any GM's ankles.

There's no way we'll definitively be able to answer that question, until someone credible comes out and says Kevyn wanted A and Terry said no.
I'm getting a little impatient too, to be honest. But I recognize and appreciate the significance of the decision, and I appreciate that he's taking his job seriously and only wants the best for the current state of the org.
Botterill interviewed like 4 guys then said (frank) it let's go with a guy who hasn't even lived on the same continent as the NHL for five years. I'm sure he'll have a modern approach.

Lazy no. He reminds me of Erik Johnson, when Johnson was still playing in college - Mentalorgasm5
They're very different players. Power is less physical, more intelligent, better skater, lower offensive ceiling, better transition, bit faster, not as refined in the D zone as EJ was..
He's more Pietrangelo than Johnson, if you want a comparable.

Right.
And I highly doubt Adams hires Ralph, who obviously was given way too much power by Botts and the owners.
Maybe Adams hires the "next Ralph", or maybe he hits it out of the park, we'll see. - Powerslave
Anyone coaching in the NHL, ex heads or assistants alike, will not be Ralph. The man was a (frank)ing dinosaur who barely had the skill to employ a system, let alone a successful one.
Just hope they get it right, and bring in someone that fits the mold of what they hope this team becomes. They will have backgrounds on a lot of individuals, who also might fit into a assistant coach for the next staff.

All this searching means nothing if they don't get it right. Welp. Two heads better than one?
The defense hadn't looked this organized since at least Disco. Having them move the puck making snap decisions allowed the offense to get rolling
At least that's how I look at it. - Michael Pachla
Completely agree.
Strange how guys like dabol can stick around (luckily) and guys like Girardi leave.
McDermott is clearly defensive mind. Seems like it's all dabol. GM's can't really look at buffalo and think McDermott is the reason....
In donnie's case, if he delegated properly- Girardi would be responsible for the organized defense.

If that's the comp it's hard to argue against the pick. Pietrangelo was the 3rd d-man taken in 2008, 4th overall. Just a quick note, Sabres took Tyler Myers 12th and Erik Karlsson was taken 15th.
