Not only that, they think the entire state of New York is a giant megalopolis.
I honest to god had someone say to me "Yeah, I drove through New York State once when I went to New York City, I couldn't believe it how rural it was!".
And I was like uh. Yeah. Just like literally the entire rest of the country, there are some dense cities and towns and then land-land.
And Buffalo itself is pretty much the gateway to the Midwest, especially for a lot of Canadians. - BeadyEyedDouche
I grew up in Wyoming county. I blow peoples mind when I tell them that where I grew up in New York is way less populated than where i live in Indiana
I know. It’s actually impressive the incompetence of this organization to suck this terribly despite selecting in the top 8 picks for as long as we have.
You’re still not going to see me say that tanking doesn’t work when I watched teams that had the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Kane, Stamkos (technically), Hedman, Doughty, Pietrangelo, and Seguin win a ring.
The last team to win a cup that did not draft at least one player on their cup winning team within the top 4 picks of the draft was Detroit in 2007/2008 thanks to looking at a map and scouting other than North America and drafting 3 HOF’ers back in the day.

I agree 100% that you need elite talent and that you get elite talent at the top of the draft 95% of the time

But it’s not mutually exclusive to tanking. - sbroads24
Sure, maybe a team accidentally blows, but the fact remains that most cup winning teams have gotten the games top players of the past decade at the top of the draft.
The Sabres went absolutely nowhere but they do have Eichel who is a top 10 C in the league, Reinhart whom has proven to be a top 6 forward, and Dahlin who might not be the “McDavid” of d-men he was made out to be he still looks like he can be a top pairing d-man with the right partner and the right coaching.
The few bright spots on the roster are our high end draft picks. That’s our issue.
McDavid and Draisatil could very well be this decades Crosby/Malkin but it has not got them far because you could mistake 75% of their roster for the Bakersfield Condors

Point is it’s not like tanking = cup
It’s elite talent + good team around them = cup.
Sabres failed at the team part. Others fail at the elite talent part
